Maruti Suzuki has updated two of its popular models — the Baleno and Ertiga — by making six airbags standard across all variants. This move aligns with the brand’s growing emphasis on improving safety across its passenger car lineup.

With this update, the Baleno and Ertiga join the list of Maruti models now equipped with six airbags as standard, a feature that was previously limited to higher variants. Until now, both cars came with only two airbags as standard, with the Baleno offering six airbags on top trims and the Ertiga offering four.

This safety upgrade has led to a slight revision in prices. The Baleno will now cost up to 0.5% more, while the Ertiga sees a price hike of up to 1.4%. The revised prices are effective from July 16, 2025. Previously, the Baleno was priced from ₹6.70 lakh and the Ertiga from ₹8.96 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Baleno was recently tested under the Bharat NCAP crash test program in both its dual airbag and six airbag versions. The six-airbag variant earned a 4-star safety rating, a result that now applies across all Baleno trims following the update. The Ertiga hasn’t been tested under Bharat NCAP yet but had scored 1 star under the stricter Global NCAP protocols for the South African version.

This update is part of a broader initiative by Maruti Suzuki to standardize six airbags across nearly its entire passenger vehicle range. Other models like the Alto K10, Wagon R, Celerio, Eeco, and Brezza have already received the update. However, some models including the S-Presso, Ignis, XL6, Fronx, and Ciaz are yet to be updated.

Of these, the XL6 and Fronx — based on the Ertiga and Baleno platforms respectively — are expected to receive the safety enhancement soon. On the other hand, the S-Presso and Ignis are unlikely to be updated. A senior Maruti Suzuki official has stated that around “97 percent” of the brand’s passenger car portfolio will offer six airbags as standard, with only a few models being excluded.

Meanwhile, the Ciaz sedan appears to be heading toward discontinuation. Despite still being listed on Nexa dealerships, no new units have reportedly been produced for several months.
