Audi has kicked off a bold new chapter in China with the unveiling of five new models at Auto Shanghai 2025, including the global debut of the AUDI E5 Sportback — the first production model under its newly launched China-exclusive sub-brand, AUDI.
The brand, in partnership with local manufacturers FAW and SAIC, is showcasing a total of 19 vehicles at its booth, which features a refreshed brand identity and immersive design aimed at highlighting Audi’s evolving product strategy in the Chinese market.
Five New Models Designed for the Chinese Market
Audi’s lineup of premieres includes the A5L, A5L Sportback, Q5L, A6L e-tron, and AUDI E5 Sportback — all developed with a strong emphasis on digitalization, spaciousness, and propulsion diversity to meet the preferences of Chinese consumers.
Audi A5L

The A5L is a next-generation midsize sedan built by FAW Audi. Its wheelbase has been extended by 77mm over the global A5, delivering more interior space and comfort — a key priority for Chinese buyers. It is powered by ultra-modern combustion engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, promising both performance and fuel efficiency. Inside, it features the MMI panoramic display and a dedicated passenger screen as standard, offering an immersive, user-friendly cockpit.
Audi A5L Sportback

SAIC Audi’s version of the A5 brings a fastback silhouette and distinct rear design, emphasizing dynamic proportions and sporty aesthetics. Also built on the Premium Platform Combustion, the A5L Sportback combines the latest engine technology with advanced driver-assistance systems and a digital-first interior designed specifically for Chinese tech-savvy drivers.
Audi Q5L

The new Q5L joins the lineup as a premium SUV with a longer wheelbase — extended by 125mm over the global Q5 — offering significantly more legroom and practicality. It continues Audi’s use of 48-volt mild-hybrid systems and is built to balance performance with everyday usability. The Q5L targets urban families and professionals seeking an upscale yet versatile SUV experience.
Audi A6L e-tron

The A6L e-tron is Audi’s latest all-electric executive sedan, developed on the PPE platform and produced locally in Changchun by the Audi FAW NEV Company. Its wheelbase has been increased by 132mm, maximizing rear-seat space — a crucial feature in China’s luxury segment. Equipped with a 107 kWh battery, it offers a range of up to 770 kilometers and uses 800-volt fast-charging technology for short charging stops and high energy efficiency. AUDI E5 Sportback

Topping the lineup is the new AUDI E5 Sportback — the first vehicle from the newly launched China-exclusive sub-brand “AUDI,” co-developed with SAIC. Designed to integrate the best of Audi’s DNA and China’s rapid digital innovation, the fully electric mid-size Sportback offers rear-wheel or quattro all-wheel drive with up to 579 kW of power. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and delivers up to 770 km of electric range. The E5 also features a new, user-centric interior with advanced driver-assistance systems and an entirely fresh design approach, both inside and out. Read the full article on the E5 Sportback here.
Audi’s New Era in China
Audi marked a significant moment at Auto Shanghai 2025 by presenting a refreshed brand identity within a single, co-hosted booth alongside its joint venture partners, FAW and SAIC. This shared platform highlights Audi’s evolving dual-brand strategy in China—one that merges FAW’s deep-rooted presence with SAIC’s rapid development capabilities to better respond to local demands and consumer expectations.
The focus on long wheelbase (LWB) variants across multiple new models underscores Audi’s commitment to tailoring products for regional preferences. This approach not only meets the expectations of Chinese buyers, who place high value on rear-seat comfort and space, but also positions Audi to potentially replicate this formula in other growth markets. Similar strategies have proven successful elsewhere, where an increasing number of premium customers are prioritizing spacious interiors, especially for chauffeur-driven use.
