At the 2025 Auto Shanghai show, MG unveiled the second model under its Cyber series—the bold, concept electric SUV named Cyber X. Finished in a striking Stardust Gray, the Cyber X features a boxy, retro-modern design language, complete with pop-up headlights, full-width LED light bars, illuminated MG logos, and sleek LED fog lamps. It rides on dual-tone alloy wheels and boasts smooth, unbroken body panels that enhance its futuristic appeal.

Notably, the concept was designed under the guidance of renowned automotive designer Jozef Kaban, known for his work on the Bugatti Veyron. The SUV measures approximately 4.3 meters in length, placing it in the compact SUV segment and making it a potential rival to models like the Tata Sierra.ev and Hyundai Creta EV, if it ever enters production.

Cyber X: Technical Foundation and Innovation

The Cyber X is based on SAIC’s latest E3 electric platform, which supports a wide variety of EV body styles and configurations. It incorporates cell-to-body (CTB) construction, where the battery pack is structurally integrated into the vehicle’s body. This not only enhances rigidity but also improves efficiency and weight distribution. The SUV is also expected to feature the Zebra 3.0 operating system, MG’s latest digital interface, though specific technical specifications have not yet been revealed.

MG positions its Cyber sub-brand to appeal to younger, tech-forward customers, particularly in the Chinese market. The Cyber X is the second model in this portfolio, following the Cyberster—an electric roadster that is expected to go on sale in India soon at an estimated price of around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).

With its upright stance, muscular wheel arches, 20-inch wheels, and high ground clearance, the Cyber X projects a commanding road presence. Its unique lighting setup includes a split arrangement with pop-up main headlights, a thick LED bar across the front fascia, and additional lighting units lower on the bumper. The tail section mirrors the front’s futuristic style with a full-width rear light bar, flush-mounted door handles, and modern roof rails.

The SUV’s design was led by Jozef Kaban, best known for his work on the Bugatti Veyron. At the world premiere, he highlighted the vehicle’s character and proportions. “It’s about 4 metres 30 (centimetres) long, but in this proportions, it’s a pure power, it’s strong,” Kaban said. Building anticipation for one of the concept’s standout features, he added, “And there is one more thing. If you look at the face, the eyes will open,” moments before the pop-up headlights revealed themselves dramatically.

While it remains uncertain whether these features will carry over to a production version, the concept gives a clear indication of MG’s future design ambitions.

MG’s Wider Presence at Auto Shanghai

Alongside the Cyber X, MG also showcased updated versions of the Cyberster, including the MY 2026 and the Black 101st Anniversary Edition. These updated electric roadsters feature aerodynamic improvements, additional boot space, enhanced voice control, and a new wind deflector that reduces cabin turbulence by 90%. New exterior colors like Iris Blue and Andes Gray, and refreshed interior trim combinations have also been introduced.

The Cyberster has already claimed a significant share of China’s electric sports car market and is recognized as the world’s best-selling electric coupe, with over 3,000 units delivered globally.

MG also confirmed its intention to introduce up to eight new models over the next two years, expanding its EV lineup and technological capabilities.

A Potential India Launch?

Though still in concept form, the MG Cyber X appears to be a viable product for global markets, including India. Given the positive reception of the MG Windsor and the Cyberster’s anticipated launch, it wouldn’t be surprising if JSW MG Motor considers localizing the Cyber X for the Indian market. However, any such production and market rollout would likely take at least one to two years.
