Porsche once again captured the attention of car enthusiasts worldwide at Auto Shanghai 2025 with the debut of two special variants of its iconic 911 sports car: the 911 Spirit 70 and the 911 GT3. Known for its heritage, performance, and engineering excellence, the Porsche 911 has been a hallmark of the brand for more than six decades.

Speaking at the Porsche press conference, CEO Dr. Oliver Blume highlighted the unique balance of tradition and innovation that defines the Porsche brand. “The 911 is our icon. It combines our heritage with state-of-the-art sports car technology – and has been setting standards for decades. This unique combination of tradition and innovation is what defines the Porsche brand. We have designed this year’s booth at the Shanghai Auto Show based on this,” said Blume.

The 911 GT3 Returns to China

One of the most anticipated models at the event was the 911 GT3, which made its return to the Chinese market. Known for its track-focused performance, the 911 GT3 has been a favorite among enthusiasts for over 25 years. The new version of this high-performance model has been further refined, offering improvements in track performance and emotional appeal.

The 911 GT3 now features a lightweight folding bucket seat with a removable headrest, allowing drivers to easily remove it when wearing a helmet. Additionally, Porsche offers tailored equipment packages, allowing customers to further personalize the car to their needs. For the first time in China, the 911 GT3 Touring will also be available, offering a more understated aesthetic by forgoing the fixed rear wing.

Powered by a naturally aspirated engine delivering 375 kW (510 PS), the 911 GT3 combines performance with sophistication, continuing to embody Porsche’s motorsport DNA.

Macan and Cayenne Passion and Active Editions for the Chinese Market

In addition to the 911, Porsche also unveiled market-specific models for Chinese customers: the Passion and Active editions of the Macan and Cayenne. The Passion editions are tailored for urban drivers, offering an extended list of lifestyle-oriented standard equipment, along with options popular in the Chinese market. On the other hand, the Active editions are designed for those seeking off-road adventures, featuring a rugged off-road package and emphasizing durability and performance in more challenging terrains.

Porsche to Open New Brand Space in Shanghai

Porsche is also expanding its brand presence in Shanghai with the upcoming opening of a new brand space in the heart of the city. Drawing inspiration from the Porsche stand concept at Auto Shanghai, this pop-up location will offer customers and fans a chance to immerse themselves in the core themes of the Porsche brand: heritage, motorsport, and individualization.
