Isuzu D-Max EV Unveiled at 2025 CV Show – 190 PS, 4WD, 263 km Range

Isuzu has officially taken the wraps off the electric version of its popular D-Max pickup at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham. The production model, which was earlier showcased in concept form at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, retains the core strengths of the diesel-powered D-Max—including strong load-carrying, towing, and off-road capabilities—even while switching to an all-electric drivetrain. The EV version is expected to go on sale in European markets later this year.

Design and Features

The D-Max EV carries forward a design that closely resembles the internal combustion engine (ICE) version. The earlier concept featured a closed grille, updated lighting, and a redesigned bumper, along with sportier dual-tone alloy wheels. However, the production version displayed in Birmingham keeps most of the styling elements from the current diesel D-Max.

The EV sits on a slightly modified version of the rugged D-Max platform. It will be offered in two variants, based on the existing DL40 and V-Cross diesel trims. Buyers can choose between extended cab and double cab configurations.

Performance and Range

The D-Max EV is powered by a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It uses a dual-motor setup that delivers a combined 140 kW (190 PS) and 325 Nm of torque—58 PS and 108 Nm at the front, 132 PS and 217 Nm at the rear. These figures are on par with the 1.9-litre turbo diesel D-Max, which produces 164 hp and 360 Nm of torque.

The electric D-Max can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds and has a top speed of over 128 km/h. It offers a WLTP-tested range of 263 km. A 4×4 drivetrain is standard, along with a payload capacity of 1 ton and a towing capacity of 3.5 tons. An Eco Mode and regenerative braking system help extend driving range.

Off-Road Capability

The D-Max EV is well-equipped for off-road use. It offers 210 mm of ground clearance and can wade through water up to 600 mm deep. The approach and departure angles are rated at 30.5° and 24.2°, respectively. For more demanding terrains, the pickup comes with a dedicated Rough Terrain Mode.

Ride Quality and Interior

Ride comfort is enhanced with a new De-Dion rear suspension, replacing the conventional leaf spring setup. This results in better handling and a smoother drive. Isuzu has also worked on reducing noise and vibrations inside the cabin—by up to 10% at higher speeds.

Safety has been upgraded with an improved ADAS package. Inside, the EV features a new high-resolution touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The battery is backed by an 8-year / 1.60 lakh km warranty, covering long-term maintenance concerns.

Production of the D-Max EV is already underway at Isuzu’s Thailand facility. While a global rollout is expected later this year, a possible launch in the Indian market has not yet been confirmed.
