Ferrari 296 Speciale A, limited-edition plug-in hybrid convertible, debuts with 868 bhp, advanced aerodynamics, and aggressive styling, replacing the 296 GTS.

Ferrari has officially unveiled the 296 Speciale A, the convertible version of the recently introduced 296 Speciale coupe. The “A” stands for “Aperta,” meaning open in Italian, continuing Ferrari’s legacy of exclusive, high-performance spider models. Replacing the 296 GTS, the Speciale A is the latest addition to Ferrari’s electrified lineup.
Visually, the 296 Speciale A gets a more aggressive styling package crafted under the direction of design chief Flavio Manzoni. Aerodynamic updates include a prominent damper at the front, inspired by the 296 GT3 race car, and a reworked rear deck. The retractable hardtop includes acoustic insulation while preserving the rigidity expected from a mid-engine Ferrari.

The car’s flying bridge design now features dual flying buttresses, enhancing both aesthetics and aerodynamics. It comes in Rosso Dino with optional racing-inspired liveries such as white stripes and numbered decals that reference Ferrari’s motorsport heritage.
Under the bodywork, the Speciale A carries over the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the coupe. A 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 is paired with a rear-mounted electric motor, producing a combined 868 bhp and 755 Nm. With a redline of 8,500 rpm and a wide 120-degree V-angle, the V6 is engineered for responsive performance and an engaging exhaust note, which is amplified inside the cabin via tuned ducts.

Power is managed by an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with the electric motor assisting in smoother power delivery. Ferrari claims a 0–100 kmph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed beyond 330 kmph.
The hybrid setup includes a 7.45 kWh battery mounted under the floor, offering up to 25 km of electric-only driving. The car supports four driving modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify—the last of which unlocks full system power, including 175 bhp from the electric motor when revving over 6,000 rpm.

In pure electric mode, the car can hit 135 kmph. Hybrid mode caps this at 125 kmph, while Performance mode ensures the engine stays active to maintain power and recharge the battery.
Ferrari says the Speciale A produces 435 kg of downforce at 250 kmph—20% more than the 296 GTS. This improvement is due to aerodynamic features developed for the 296 Challenge race car, including quick-shifting active aero systems for varying downforce needs.
Though built on an aluminium chassis rather than a carbon fibre monocoque, the Speciale A is over 50 kg lighter than the 296 GTS. The use of carbon fibre and titanium components helps boost handling and performance.

Inside, the 296 Speciale A sticks to Ferrari’s minimalist layout, focusing on driver engagement. There’s no central infotainment screen—instead, it features a digital instrument display and an optional screen for the passenger. The interior uses high-quality materials with racing-inspired design touches.
The 296 Speciale A starts at €462,000 (around ₹4.44 crore), a premium over the coupe’s €407,000 (₹3.91 crore). Both versions are significantly more expensive than the standard 296 GTB, priced at €292,000 (₹2.80 crore).
