Volkswagen has officially opened pre-bookings for the Golf GTI in India, starting May 5, 2025. The high-performance hatchback returns with a 2.0-litre TSI engine, updated features, and signature GTI styling. Known for its sharp dynamics and premium equipment, the Golf GTI continues to appeal to driving enthusiasts.

Performance and Powertrain

At the core of the new Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre TSI (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) petrol engine that produces 265 PS and 370 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through a 7-speed DSG transmission, enabling the hatchback to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.

The torque band ranges from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm, ensuring responsive acceleration and smooth power delivery across various driving conditions. The model features disc brakes on all four wheels and progressive steering for improved handling. An XDS electronic front differential lock enhances cornering stability.

Exterior Highlights

The Golf GTI stands out with signature GTI design elements, including red accents, an illuminated Volkswagen logo, and X-shaped LED fog lamps. The car sits on 18-inch “Richmond” alloy wheels with a diamond-turned finish and features twin chrome exhaust tips. Ambient exterior lighting with a wake-up and goodbye effect adds a modern touch.

Interior and Technology

The cabin features Scalepaper Plaid upholstery with red detailing, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel with a GTI badge, and paddle shifters. A panoramic sunroof and 30-colour ambient lighting enhance the overall experience.

Technologically, the hatchback includes a 32.8 cm (12.9-inch) touchscreen infotainment system and a 26.04 cm (10.25-inch) Digital Cockpit Pro. It also offers wireless charging, wired and wireless App-Connect, voice control with IDA, and a seven-speaker sound system.

The Golf GTI comes equipped with a three-zone Climatronic automatic air-conditioning system, rear AC vents with temperature control, and keyless start with SAFELOCK and pulse effect. Progressive steering further improves driver comfort and control.

Launch Timeline and Pricing

While the pricing is yet to be officially announced, Volkswagen is expected to reveal it later this month. Deliveries for the new Golf GTI are likely to begin from June 2025. The model will be brought to India as a full import (CBU), which means pricing is expected to be on the higher side. On-road prices in cities like Mumbai could cross the Rs 60 lakh mark.
