Citroen C3 CNG launched in India via a certified retrofitment program. Priced from ₹7.16 lakh to ₹9.24 lakh, it offers 28.1 km/kg mileage, available in four variants with a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty.

Citroen India has officially launched the CNG version of its C3 hatchback, expanding its product lineup with a more fuel-efficient option. The C3 CNG is available through a certified dealer-level retrofitment program and is priced from ₹7.16 lakh to ₹9.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The retrofitment cost for the CNG kit is ₹93,000 over the standard petrol variant.
Available Variants and Warranty Coverage
The CNG kit is available across four trims of the Citroen C3 — Live, Feel, Feel (O), and Shine. The company is offering the same warranty package of 3 years or 1,00,000 km on the CNG variant as it does for the regular petrol version. This includes coverage for both the car and CNG components, despite it being a retrofit setup and not a factory-fitted kit.
Engine, Mileage, and Range
The CNG option is paired with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. While Citroën hasn’t revealed the official output figures for the CNG mode, the petrol version produces 82 hp and 115 Nm of torque. The company claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 28.1 km/kg for the CNG variant, with a driving range of approximately 170 to 200 km on a full tank. The CNG tank is a single-cylinder unit with a 55-litre water-equivalent capacity.
CNG Kit and Fueling Convenience
Supplied by Lovato, the CNG kit has been integrated to ensure ease of use without affecting everyday practicality. The CNG nozzle is neatly housed within the standard fuel filler port, allowing for easy refueling. Importantly, Citroën has ensured that boot space remains usable and that the spare wheel remains accessible even with the kit installed.
Suspension Tweaks to Maintain Ride Comfort
To handle the added weight of the CNG components, Citroën has made specific suspension updates. The rear shock absorbers have been retuned, and the car now gets reinforced springs along with an anti-roll bar. These changes are aimed at preserving the comfortable “flying carpet” ride quality Citroën is known for, even with the added load from the CNG kit.
Feature Updates in Recent Months
The C3 has received several updates since its launch in mid-2022. The last major feature update arrived in August 2024 and included additions such as LED projector headlamps, auto climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, six airbags, and auto-folding ORVMs. These additions have improved the value proposition of the hatchback, and the introduction of the CNG variant further broadens its appeal.
C3 CNG Price Comparison with Rivals
In terms of competition, the C3 CNG is priced slightly above the Maruti Wagon R CNG, which ranges between ₹6.89 lakh and ₹7.13 lakh. However, it undercuts CNG-powered subcompact SUVs like the Tata Punch (₹7.30–10.00 lakh) and Hyundai Exter (₹8.63–9.53 lakh), making it a balanced option for buyers looking for affordability and fuel efficiency in a larger package.
Official Statement
Commenting on the launch, Kumar Priyesh, Business Head & Director – Automotive Brands, Stellantis India, said, “We are pleased to introduce the CNG retrofitment option for the Citroën C3, reinforcing our commitment to provide accessible, economical, and eco-conscious mobility solutions. This initiative will enable our customers to experience Citroën comfort and design while benefitting from the cost-efficiency and environmental advantages of CNG.”
