Launched in the U.S. market in 2018, the previous-generation Toyota C-HR came with a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 144 hp. While Toyota has a strong presence in the hybrid segment across the country, its battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup is currently limited to the bZ4X compact SUV. Now, aiming to expand its all-electric offerings, Toyota has unveiled the latest-generation C-HR with a fully electric powertrain. This new BEV model is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in 2026. Here’s a look at the standout features of the upcoming 2026 Toyota C-HR EV.
2026 Toyota C-HR EV: Design
The 2026 C-HR EV retains the sporty, coupe-like profile of the gas-powered C-HR but introduces EV-specific styling and enhanced aerodynamics. The vehicle has compact dimensions—177.9 inches in length and 73.6 inches in width—yet still offers up to 25.4 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats. A power liftgate, low-profile roof rails, and rain-sensing wipers are part of the standard equipment list.
Inside, the cabin is finished with premium materials, ambient lighting, and a minimalist layout. Highlights include a 14-inch touchscreen running Toyota’s Audio Multimedia system, a digital gauge cluster, dual wireless phone chargers, and optional panoramic roof. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air conditioning controls and USB-C ports.
2026 Toyota C-HR EV: Performance and Battery Tech
Equipped with electric motors at both axles, the C-HR EV features standard all-wheel drive. The vehicle is powered by a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery and includes an 11-kW onboard AC charger. Charging via DC fast chargers using the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port allows a 10-80% recharge in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
A regenerative braking system, operated through steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, offers four levels of braking force and helps recover energy during deceleration. The battery pack is installed beneath the floor to lower the center of gravity and enhance handling. Toyota has also tuned the suspension components for performance and ride comfort.
Battery pre-conditioning is included and can be triggered automatically via the navigation system when heading to a DC fast charger, optimizing charge times in cold weather.

Available in Two Trims: SE and XSE
The C-HR EV will be available in two grades: SE and XSE. Both offer a high level of equipment, while the XSE adds premium features and styling enhancements.

The 2026 Toyota C-HR comes equipped with advanced technology to enhance both connectivity and safety. Every trim features the JBL Premium Audio system with 9 speakers, delivering high-quality sound for an immersive in-car entertainment experience. The vehicle’s 14-inch touchscreen runs Toyota’s Audio Multimedia system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth connectivity, and integrated streaming services like Apple Music and Amazon Music.
On the safety front, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across all variants, offering a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). This includes features such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Additional standard safety tech includes Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert, which helps prevent collisions with approaching vehicles or cyclists when opening doors.
