Xiaomi has taken the wraps off the YU7 electric SUV, bringing its tech-forward vision to the EV market. Loaded with modern features, the YU7 targets both performance and efficiency, while offering advanced hardware and software across its range. The electric SUV comes in three variants, each delivering unique performance characteristics, long driving range, and high-speed charging capabilities.

Battery Options and Range Capabilities

The YU7 offers three configurations based on powertrain and battery setup:

  • Standard RWD Version: Equipped with a 96.3 kWh battery, this variant delivers a segment-leading range of 835 km (CLTC), making it one of the most efficient electric SUVs with a sub-100 kWh battery.
  • Pro AWD Variant: Also powered by the same 96.3 kWh unit but with dual motors and all-wheel drive, this version achieves a 760 km claimed range due to increased power draw.
  • Max AWD Model: This top-tier variant features a larger 101.7 kWh battery using nickel cobalt manganese chemistry. Despite the higher performance output, it manages an impressive 770 km range on a full charge.

Xiaomi has implemented an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide charging architecture with a peak voltage of 897V. Thanks to its 5.2C fast-charging rate, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes, or drivers can add up to 620 km of range in just 15 minutes, significantly cutting downtime during long trips.

Built for Safety: Structure and Crash Performance

Constructed on Xiaomi’s Modena platform, the YU7’s body structure uses a steel-aluminum hybrid frame incorporating over 90% high-strength materials. The frame has been engineered through a combination of 24 million AI simulations and more than 4,000 physical tests.

Key structural enhancements include:

  • Front door beam strength increased by 52.4%
  • Rear door beam improved by 37.6%
  • A-pillar strength raised by 35%
  • B-pillar stiffness increased by 70.5%

This leads to a torsional rigidity rating of 47,610 N·m/deg, contributing to better handling and occupant protection.

For crash safety, the YU7 features a 659 mm front crumple zone, 1500 MPa underbody crossbeam, and a special battery protection layer claimed to be ten times more durable than conventional PVC coatings. Xiaomi reports that the YU7 has successfully passed over 50 crash tests under both C-NCAP and C-IASI protocols, including demanding rear-impact tests conducted at speeds up to 90 km/h.

Performance and Technology

In terms of performance, the YU7 offers three powertrain setups:

  • The rear-wheel-drive base model delivers 315 hp and 528 Nm, achieving 0–100 km/h in 5.88 seconds.
  • The Pro AWD version steps up to 489 hp and 690 Nm, cutting the sprint time to 4.27 seconds.
  • The Max AWD variant tops out at 681 hp and 866 Nm, managing a 0–100 km/h run in just 3.23 seconds and reaching a top speed of 253 km/h.

The EV rides on Xiaomi’s V6s Plus electric motors, and all versions benefit from the Modena EV platform and lightweight construction. Depending on the variant, it gets up to 20-inch wheels and a kerb weight of up to 2,460 kg.
