Toyota Fortuner crosses 3 lakh unit sales in India. Known for its rugged build and reliability, the SUV continues to dominate the premium segment despite a high price tag.

Toyota has reached a major milestone with its Fortuner SUV, recording over 3 lakh units sold across India. Despite its premium pricing and aging feature set, the Fortuner—along with its top-spec Legender variant—continues to dominate the full-size SUV segment, outperforming rivals month after month.
Strong Demand Despite Premium Price
The Fortuner is currently priced between ₹33.78 lakh and ₹51.94 lakh (ex-showroom), while on-road prices in cities like Mumbai push the range between ₹39.09 lakh and ₹57.12 lakh for the Fortuner and ₹48.60 lakh to ₹52.93 lakh for the Legender. Despite the high price tag, demand for the SUV remains strong. Its rugged appeal, commanding road presence, and Toyota’s reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs are key reasons for its success.
Powerful Engine Line-Up
The Fortuner is offered with two engine options. The petrol variant features a 2.7-litre unit producing 164bhp and 245Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel version comes with a 2.8-litre engine delivering 201bhp. Torque output varies depending on the gearbox—420Nm for the manual and 500Nm for the automatic.

The Legender, which is positioned as the premium variant, is only offered with the diesel engine and comes with both manual and automatic transmission options. Both models are available in 2WD and 4WD versions, catering to diverse driving needs from city roads to rugged terrains.
Features and Safety Equipment
The Toyota Fortuner comes equipped with a wide range of features that add to its appeal. These include ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an 11-speaker JBL sound system. Other conveniences include a wireless phone charger, gesture-controlled electric tailgate, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
On the safety front, the SUV offers 7 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist, a rearview camera, and front and rear parking sensors. These features provide both comfort and peace of mind, making it a practical choice for long drives and daily use alike.

Continued Popularity in a Competitive Segment
Even though newer rivals have entered the market with more modern features, the Fortuner continues to lead in monthly sales. Its long-standing reputation for durability, robust build quality, and strong resale value make it a go-to choice for buyers looking for a premium SUV with serious road presence and off-road capability.
