VinFast VF7 Spotted in India Ahead of Launch Later This Year

Vietnamese electric carmaker VinFast is preparing to enter the Indian market with its VF7 electric SUV, expected to launch around the festive season, likely in October. A prototype of the VF7 has recently been spotted in Mumbai, confirming that the company is gearing up for its India debut.

The VF7 is anticipated to be introduced as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model, to be assembled locally at VinFast’s new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The latest spy images, shared by Autocar India, reveal a black VF7 without camouflage, providing a clear look at the upcoming electric SUV.

Design and Features

The India-spec VF7 seen on the streets of Mumbai features a Jet Black paint finish and is fitted with 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels wrapped in Apollo Aspire 245/50 R19 tyres. This setup is slightly different from the model showcased earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, which came with larger 20-inch wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. The smaller wheels are likely chosen to improve ride comfort on Indian roads, a common approach by global manufacturers tailoring models for this market.

VinFast also offers the VF7 in other colour options including Brahminy White, Crimson Red, and Neptune Grey. The spy shots also highlight some of the SUV’s advanced features, including an ADAS sensor located on the front bumper and a camera on the ORVM (outside rear-view mirror), suggesting the inclusion of blind spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system.

Performance and Variants

Internationally, the VinFast VF7 is available in two variants — Eco and Plus. Both are powered by a 75.3 kWh battery pack. The Eco version features a single electric motor on the front axle producing 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. The Plus variant offers a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup delivering a combined output of 354 hp and 500 Nm.

According to VinFast, the Eco variant delivers a WLTP-certified range of 450 km, while the Plus offers 431 km per charge. These figures place the VF7 as a strong competitor in India’s emerging electric SUV segment.

Looking Ahead

With the VF7, VinFast aims to capture the attention of Indian buyers seeking electric vehicles that combine modern design, good performance, and advanced safety features. The local assembly strategy could also help the company offer competitive pricing.

VinFast has yet to confirm the exact launch date but is expected to introduce the VF7 in India before the end of the year.
