Toyota Fortuner and Legender 48V mild-hybrid variants launched in India starting at ₹44.72 lakh. Equipped with 2.8-litre diesel engine and hybrid assist for improved fuel efficiency and features like a 360-degree camera and wireless charging.

Toyota has officially launched the 48V mild-hybrid versions of the Fortuner and Legender in India. The Fortuner is priced at ₹44.72 lakh, while the Legender mild-hybrid variant costs ₹50.09 lakh (both ex-showroom). These new variants, branded as ‘Neo Drive’, mark Toyota’s expansion of its hybrid technology in the Indian market. Bookings have opened from today, with deliveries set to begin in the third week of June.
The new Neo Drive trims continue to use the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, producing 204hp and 500Nm of torque. However, they now incorporate a 48V mild-hybrid system featuring a belt-integrated starter generator and a lithium-ion battery. This system stores energy through regenerative braking and supports the engine during acceleration, which helps in reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The setup also includes an auto start-stop function that switches off the engine during idling, making urban driving more efficient. Toyota estimates fuel economy gains of up to 10 percent.

Visually, the Fortuner and Legender remain largely unchanged, with the only noticeable exterior update being the addition of a ‘Neo Drive’ badge. The Fortuner retains its upright SUV look, while the Legender continues with its sportier styling elements like dual-tone paint and split LED headlamps. Inside, both SUVs keep their existing layout, including leather upholstery and soft-touch surfaces. New features exclusive to the hybrid variants include a 360-degree camera system and wireless smartphone charging, now offered as standard.
Toyota has ensured that the core strengths of both SUVs—such as off-road capability and load-carrying capacity—remain unaffected by the hybrid system. The electric motor provides torque assist at low speeds, easing crawling in traffic or off-road trails. The Multi-Terrain Select system continues to offer tailored traction and braking performance for various surfaces.
Safety features remain comprehensive, with seven airbags, stability and traction control, hill start assist, emergency braking, ISOFIX mounts, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, and speed-sensing door locks offered as standard.
