Asus ROG Xbox Ally (2025) Series Debuts: All You Need to Know About the New Models

Asus, in collaboration with Microsoft, has officially introduced two new handheld gaming devices—ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X—during the Xbox Games Showcase. These consoles are part of Asus’s expanding ROG lineup and are set to launch globally during the 2025 holiday season. While an India launch timeline hasn’t been confirmed yet, Microsoft has hinted that additional markets, including India, will follow after the initial rollout in countries such as the US, UK, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and France.

A Console-Like Handheld Experience

Both handhelds are built around delivering a seamless Xbox and Windows gaming experience in a portable format. One of the major highlights is the new Xbox full-screen mode, which replaces the traditional Windows desktop interface. This optimised mode is designed to enhance usability on small screens, reduce memory load, and improve battery efficiency. However, users can still switch back to desktop mode when needed.

The interface consolidates game libraries across various platforms—Xbox, Game Pass, Steam, and Epic Games Store—into a single, controller-friendly layout. Enhanced Xbox Game Bar functionality now allows access to notifications, settings, and apps like Discord entirely through the controller. Even PIN logins can be completed via controller input, creating a user experience more in line with traditional Xbox consoles.

Both models come with 7-inch Full HD LCD displays that support 120Hz refresh rates, FreeSync Premium, and are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus with DXC Anti-Reflection coating. While both feature the same dimensions, the specifications and performance targets differ significantly.

Enhanced Gaming Features

Both devices come equipped with Xbox-style grips, impulse triggers, and a dedicated Xbox button. The ROG Ally X takes it a step further by adding haptic feedback, enhancing immersion during gameplay with tactile responses that simulate in-game terrain and combat.

Power efficiency has also been improved. Microsoft claims the new Xbox mode consumes up to one-third less power in sleep mode, which should help extend overall battery life for mobile gamers.

Availability

Asus and Microsoft have yet to announce pricing, pre-order details, and available accessories. These are expected to be revealed closer to the launch date. While Indian gamers may have to wait slightly longer, Asus has confirmed that the devices will make their way to more markets following the initial global launch.
