Vivo is set to enter the next phase of the foldable race with the launch of the Vivo X Fold 5, confirmed for June 25 in China at 7 PM local time. While there’s no official India announcement yet, the phone is widely expected to arrive in the country sometime in July. With Samsung also preparing to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 7 around the same time, July is shaping up to be a high-stakes month for premium foldable smartphones.

This year, Vivo appears to be starting with a single model—the X Fold 5—unlike last year’s X Fold 3 series which included both standard and Pro variants. The company has already listed the X Fold 5 on its official website in China, with pre-orders now live.

Official images reveal that the Vivo X Fold 5 will come in three color options: White, Pine Green, and Titanium. It retains a familiar design language from its predecessor, complete with a Zeiss-branded circular camera module. However, Vivo has introduced a new physical button on the left side of the device, replacing the traditional mute switch—potentially hinting at new functionality.

According to details shared by Vivo’s product manager Han Boxiao on Weibo, the X Fold 5 will use 8T LTPO panels on both the inner and outer displays. These AMOLED screens will offer a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. They’re also certified by TÜV Rheinland for global eye protection and feature Zeiss Master colour calibration, promising better visual clarity and accuracy under various lighting conditions.

Durability has also been a focus for Vivo this time. The X Fold 5 carries an IPX5 rating for dust resistance and an IPX9+ rating for water resistance. It is said to withstand folding up to 1,000 times under 1 metre of water, and it can operate in extremely cold temperatures, down to -20°C. Its physical profile is a major highlight too—it’s significantly thinner and lighter than the previous model, weighing around 209 grams and measuring just 4.3mm when unfolded.

Under the hood, the X Fold 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, expected to be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. As for the cameras, the phone is rumoured to pack a 50MP triple rear camera setup. Battery performance is also promising, with reports hinting at a 6,000mAh unit that supports 90W wired fast charging and 30W wireless charging.

In a surprising twist, Vivo might be targeting cross-platform users as well. Teasers posted on Weibo suggest that the X Fold 5 could offer limited compatibility with Apple’s ecosystem. This includes support for connecting with Apple Watch, accessing iCloud files, and syncing with devices like MacBooks and AirPods—features rarely seen on Android devices.

Vivo is also planning to introduce the TWS Air3 Pro during the same launch event. These semi-in-ear ANC earbuds will be available in two versions—standard and long battery—and will come in Starry Black and Vitality White color options.

Stay tuned for further updates as we get closer to the launch.
