Mahindra has started road testing the facelifted version of its popular SUV, the XUV700, and a camouflaged test mule was recently spotted for the first time on Indian roads. The images comes via a video shared by TamilMotors360, giving a first glimpse at what the updated model might offer. The current XUV700 has remained largely unchanged since its launch back in August 2021. While a launch in 2025 seems unlikely, the facelifted version is expected to arrive in 2026, bringing a refreshed design, more features, and updated technology. Interestingly, there is speculation that Mahindra might rename the vehicle to XUV7XO to align with its current naming trend, but as of now, it continues to be referred to as the XUV700.

Despite being an early prototype, a few styling updates are visible. The test vehicle sports a new grille design with more prominent, slanted vertical slats, similar to the ones seen on the XUV 3XO. While the lower bumper looks familiar, it may receive changes hidden beneath the camouflage. The most noticeable feature is the circular headlamps, which appear to be temporarily borrowed from the Mahindra Thar Roxx. These are likely placeholders, with final headlight units expected to be completely new. The fog lamps are currently missing, possibly removed for testing or concealed under the camouflage wrap. Changes to the bumper and daytime running lights are also anticipated.

On the sides, the silhouette remains unchanged with the same flush-type door handles carried over from the current model. Although most of the profile is heavily camouflage, no significant alterations are visible at this stage. At the rear, the tail lamp shape appears similar to the existing version, though Mahindra might update the internal elements for a fresh look. A redesigned rear bumper and new alloy wheels could also be part of the update. Since this is a mid-life facelift, no structural or dimensional changes are expected.

The interior of the facelifted XUV700 is likely to receive several upgrades, even though the existing model already offers a long list of features. Expected additions include a triple-screen layout, enhanced Level 2 ADAS, rear ventilated seats for the six-seater version, sun blinds, improved connected car technology, an ambient-lit infinity glass roof, and auto park assist — a feature that might be adapted from Mahindra’s electric SUV lineup. These changes will help the XUV700 stay relevant in a segment that is increasingly focused on tech and comfort.

Mechanically, the XUV700 facelift is expected to retain the same engine options — the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel — both of which have been key to its performance appeal. While hybrid powertrains aren’t confirmed for this update, Mahindra has been working towards hybridisation of its mid-size SUV portfolio, which could become a reality in the future.
