Volvo S90 Discontinued in India

Volvo has quietly pulled the plug on its S90 luxury sedan in India. The premium midsize offering has now been delisted from the brand’s official website, indicating that it is no longer available for sale. With this, Volvo India’s product lineup now exclusively features SUVs, marking the end of sedans in the brand’s portfolio for the Indian market.

The Volvo S90 facelifted was introduced in India in October 2021 and was priced at ₹68.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It was locally assembled and positioned as a competitor to other luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. However, the arrival of newer, more technologically advanced generations of its rivals, coupled with limited updates to the S90, meant it gradually lost traction among buyers.

In India, the S90 was sold in a single, fully-loaded B5 trim. It came powered by a 250hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain delivered refined performance, but in a market shifting rapidly toward more electrified and high-performance offerings, it struggled to keep pace.

Despite its low sales, the S90 came equipped with a long list of premium features. These included ventilated and massaging front seats, four-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, and a 1,400W 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system. It also featured an air suspension setup and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Cross Traffic Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Globally, Volvo has updated the S90 with both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. However, there is no official word on whether the refreshed model will make its way to the Indian market in the future.
