Volvo has officially renamed its electric SUV models in India as part of a global rebranding strategy, with the C40 Recharge now called the EC40, and the XC40 Recharge now known as the EX40. Alongside the name update, both models have been reintroduced in the Indian market with fresh features, a new variant lineup, and revised pricing.

The Volvo EC40 is now priced at ₹59 lakh, while the EX40 starts at ₹50.10 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, India). With these new names, Volvo is aligning its electric vehicles more clearly within its product strategy — similar to how other global manufacturers are streamlining EV branding.

Both electric SUVs are available in a single, fully-loaded Twin Motor Performance variant that includes all-wheel drive. This setup delivers 408hp and 660Nm of torque, allowing a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds. The WLTP-claimed range for both models stands at 583 km for the EC40 and 592 km for the EX40, thanks to a 79kWh battery pack and enhanced software optimization. Real-world range is expected to be slightly lower but still competitive in the segment.

Charging times remain consistent with earlier models, with 0–100% AC charging via an 11kW charger taking approximately 8 hours, and fast DC charging (up to 200kW) enabling 10–80% charge in around 27 minutes.

Visually, both models retain their familiar design but now feature new alloy wheels, updated pixel LED headlamps, and blacked-out Volvo logos — marking subtle yet modern styling updates. Inside, Volvo has added a new Tailored Wool Blend upholstery option, replacing traditional leather with a more sustainable material, in line with the brand’s eco-conscious goals. The EC40 also features a unique sloping coupe-style roofline, giving it a more distinct sporty character compared to the boxier EX40.

One key change is the removal of the Single Motor variant, which was previously available in the XC40 Recharge. Now, both the EX40 and EC40 will only be offered in the dual-motor AWD configuration, underscoring Volvo’s focus on premium electric performance in India.

Both models come equipped with a comprehensive feature list that includes a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, powered front seats, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and an Android-based infotainment system with Google built-in. Additionally, ADAS features come standard, adding to safety and driving convenience.

Volvo’s decision to streamline its electric SUV lineup under the new EC and EX naming also reflects its commitment to becoming an all-electric brand globally by 2030. With the S90 sedan now discontinued, the company’s India lineup is now fully SUV-focused — including the XC60, XC90, and these newly updated electric models.
