Nothing Phone 3 to Feature 50MP Periscope Camera, Confirmed Ahead of July 1 Launch

Nothing has confirmed that its upcoming flagship, the Nothing Phone 3, will feature a 50-megapixel periscope camera, marking a significant upgrade over the Phone 2. The global launch is scheduled for July 1, and this announcement builds anticipation for what the company calls its “first true flagship.”

In a teaser shared on X (formerly Twitter), Nothing revealed that the Phone 3 is “built for creators” and will include a 50MP periscope lens. While the exact zoom range remains undisclosed, the company has shared a few sample shots hinting at impressive zoom and telemacro performance. This is a notable step up from the Phone 2, which lacked a dedicated telephoto lens and only offered wide and ultrawide cameras.

Adding to the excitement, Nothing Co-founder Akis Evangelidis posted on X that the Phone 3 achieves this with a 74% smaller camera bump compared to the Phone (3a) Pro, while still supporting macro photography as close as 10cm. He also shared a set of macro shots taken by community members using the Phone 3, calling them “real life Pokémons” — further highlighting the device’s camera versatility.

This raises questions about the rest of the camera setup. Will Nothing keep the ultrawide lens and introduce a third sensor, or replace it entirely with the periscope camera? Given the company’s focus on minimalist design, it will be interesting to see how it balances form and functionality this time around.

The periscope camera announcement is the third confirmed detail about the Phone 3. Earlier, Nothing revealed that the device would feature a redesigned glyph interface—a matrix layout replacing the existing glyph lights. Based on promotional images, this new matrix design appears to be placed near the top of the phone, close to the camera module. However, its exact use cases have yet to be explained.

Nothing has also confirmed that the Phone 3 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, bringing flagship-level performance to the device.
