Samsung’s rumored tri-fold foldable phone surfaces in new One UI 8 animations ahead of Galaxy Unpacked 2025. Here’s what the design reveals and what to expect.

With just days to go before Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, new details have surfaced hinting at what could be the company’s first-ever tri-fold foldable smartphone. Shared by Android Authority, fresh animations from the latest One UI 8 build have revealed a glimpse of a mystery device, internally referred to as the “Multifold 7.”

This new foldable concept is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and Z Flip7 FE, but Samsung has yet to confirm its existence publicly. While it’s been widely dubbed the Galaxy G Fold or tri-fold foldable, the animations suggest a unique folding mechanism unlike any current device.

The most notable design highlight is the G-shaped folding mechanism. Instead of the S-shaped hinge used by Huawei’s Mate X, Samsung appears to be using two inward-folding hinges of different sizes. This layout allows the inner display to close flat while sandwiching what looks like a blank panel in between, possibly to protect the display from pressure or scratches. The warning animation included in the firmware specifically advises users not to fold the device starting from the camera panel, likely due to the hinge configuration.

From the animation breakdown, the tri-fold appears to have three distinct rear sections. One end houses a triple-camera setup resembling the current Galaxy Z Fold series. The middle section contains a front camera within a secondary display, meant for use while folded. The third section seems bezel-less and non-functional—possibly just a rear panel to complete the folding structure.

Although it has been internally tagged as “Multifold 7,” Samsung has yet to confirm whether this tri-fold design will be part of the July 9 announcements. It could be an early prototype or a test model meant for internal development, and there’s still a chance the final version may not be unveiled publicly just yet.

That said, expectations remain high for the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung is set to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Flip7 FE, Galaxy Watch 8, and the new Galaxy Watch Ultra. There’s also speculation that Samsung could use the platform to tease this tri-fold device further.

For viewers in India, the Galaxy Unpacked event will be streamed live on Samsung’s YouTube channel starting at 7:30 PM IST on July 9.
