Audi has revealed the new plug-in hybrid variants of the third-generation Q5 SUV and Q5 Sportback, adding a more electrified option to its global lineup. These PHEV models come equipped with a larger 25.9 kWh battery and promise up to 100 km of pure electric range—making them among the most capable plug-in hybrids in the mid-size SUV segment.

Under the hood, both variants combine a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor, integrated into the dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Audi will offer two power outputs: a standard 295 bhp version that does 0–100 kmph in 6.2 seconds, and a more powerful 362 bhp version that drops the sprint time to 5.1 seconds. Quattro all-wheel drive is standard on both models, and top speed is capped at 250 kmph.

Drivers will be able to toggle between two drive modes—EV and Hybrid. In EV mode, the vehicle uses electric power until the battery is depleted, while Hybrid mode optimizes power usage and maintains a set battery charge level by alternating between petrol and electric propulsion. Regenerative braking is also included, with three levels of braking force selectable via steering-mounted paddles.

Audi has also made sure the plug-in hybrid Q5s aren’t lacking in features. Standard equipment includes three-zone climate control and S sport suspension. The more powerful variant adds LED headlights and taillights, 19-inch alloy wheels, an S Line interior package, and an upgraded MMI infotainment system.

Design-wise, the Q5 keeps its sharp, athletic character. A prominent shoulder line and rising side contour give it a strong stance, while the Sportback variant brings a sloping roofline that improves aerodynamics without compromising interior space. At the rear, a full-width light strip adds a modern touch, and the performance-focused SQ5 stands out with its distinctive quad-exhaust setup.

Inside, Audi’s Digital Stage takes center stage. It includes an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen, while Prestige trims add a 10.9-inch passenger display with Dynamic Privacy Mode. High-quality materials, acoustic windshields, and optional acoustic side windows enhance refinement. The SQ5 version further elevates the cabin with diamond-stitched upholstery and leather-Dinamica trim.

Charging times are efficient too. The Q5 PHEVs support up to 11 kW AC charging, enabling a full recharge in approximately 2.5 hours.

Production of the updated Q5 range will take place at Audi’s facility in Mexico, with European sales expected to begin in Q3 2025. While India launch details remain unconfirmed, these upgrades set the stage for a more electrified and premium Q5 experience globally.
