Toyota has refreshed its all-electric SUV for 2026, giving the bZ4X a new name — now simply the Toyota bZ — along with several performance, design, and technology upgrades. Aimed at improving efficiency and driving experience, the updated model introduces a bigger battery option, stronger powertrains, faster charging, and a refined interior, setting the stage for Toyota’s next step in its EV strategy.

Longer Range with New Battery Options

Select variants now come with a 74.7-kWh battery, boosting the estimated range up to 505 km, a 25% improvement over the previous version. This larger battery is standard on the XLE FWD Plus, XLE AWD, and Limited trims. A smaller 57.7-kWh pack remains on the base XLE FWD, offering up to 378 km of range.

Faster Charging and New Plug Standards

The 2026 bZ now supports the North American Charging Standard (NACS), giving drivers access to thousands of fast-charging stations. With Plug & Charge functionality, owners can simply plug in and charge — no need for separate apps or cards. Under optimal conditions, the battery can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Boosted Power and Performance

All-wheel drive models now deliver a total of 338 hp, up from 214 hp, helping the SUV accelerate from 0–96 km/h in under 5 seconds. Front-wheel drive versions are rated at 221 hp, an improvement over the earlier 201 hp. These gains are supported by new eAxles using silicon carbide semiconductors for better efficiency and output.

Dimensions and Space

The exterior sees minor changes like redesigned lighting, low-profile trim, and sleek color finishes. Inside, the cabin now features a larger 14-inch touchscreen, new digital displays, 64-color ambient lighting, and dual wireless phone chargers. Drivers can also use paddle shifters to control regenerative braking levels more precisely.

Cold-Weather Efficiency and Off-Road Tech

A battery thermal management system helps maintain charging speed in colder conditions, using a water-to-water heat exchanger and heat pump to warm the cabin without draining too much energy. Heated and ventilated seats are also standard in higher trims. AWD variants come equipped with X-Mode and Grip-Control, improving low-speed traction on rough terrain.
