Audi has officially revealed the third-generation Q3, a major update to its globally popular premium compact SUV. With more than two million units sold since its original debut, the Q3 continues to play a key role in Audi’s SUV lineup. The new model brings in fresh design elements, new-age hybrid powertrains, advanced lighting features, and AI-based in-cabin tech, aiming to set a new benchmark in its segment.

The 2025 Audi Q3 now offers both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. The base powertrain is a 1.5-litre TFSI petrol engine paired with a mild-hybrid system delivering 150bhp, including cylinder deactivation for improved efficiency. A 150bhp diesel option is also available for those who prioritise long-distance fuel economy. The headline variant, however, is the Q3 e-hybrid – a plug-in hybrid version producing 272bhp (200kW) and offering a preliminary electric-only range of up to 119 km (WLTP). This version also supports 50kW DC fast charging, topping up from 0 to 80% in under 30 minutes – a notable advantage for urban and short-haul users seeking electrified practicality.

On the design front, Audi has gone for a more aggressive and athletic look. The wide Singleframe grille and slimmer LED headlamps give it a sharper face, while the prominent shoulder line adds visual length and muscularity to the profile. Aerodynamic efficiency has been improved too, with the drag coefficient now rated at 0.30. Audi is also offering digital OLED tail lamps for the first time in this segment, along with acoustic glazing to reduce cabin noise – both features enhancing overall comfort and appeal.

Audi’s well-known lighting technology sees a significant leap forward with the introduction of digital Matrix LED headlights. These use micro-LED technology – a first in the compact SUV segment – with each module housing 25,600 tiny LEDs, each half the width of a human hair. These lights not only offer improved illumination but also integrate with driver-assist systems to project alerts directly onto the road surface, such as warnings for icy patches or construction zones.

Inside, the cabin follows Audi’s latest “digital stage” concept. It gets an 11.9-inch digital driver display and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both running Android Automotive OS. Audi’s virtual assistant makes its debut here as a responsive on-screen avatar that can take voice commands and offer contextual suggestions. The new steering wheel design also helps free up central console space by integrating the gear selector on the column.

Sustainability plays a role too. The upholstery now includes recycled materials such as Econyl – made from discarded fishing nets – and polyester-based fabrics. Buyers can also opt for a 420W Sonos premium audio system for a richer sound experience.

In terms of safety and driving dynamics, Audi has revamped the Q3’s suspension setup with optional adaptive dampers and progressive steering for better control. Key driver-assist features include adaptive cruise assist with lane-change support up to 210 km/h, emergency assist (which can bring the car to a stop if the driver is unresponsive), a digital rear-view mirror, 360-degree camera views, and a “trained parking” system that memorises custom manoeuvres.
