Hyundai has launched the Elexio EV SUV in China, developed with BAIC under Beijing Hyundai. Built on the E-GMP platform, the Elexio offers a new design, over 700 km range, and fast charging in just 27 minutes.

Hyundai has officially revealed its latest electric SUV, the Elexio, developed exclusively for the Chinese market through its partnership with BAIC Motor under the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. Unlike other global Hyundai EVs carrying the ‘Ioniq’ branding, the Elexio introduces a fresh identity with a new design direction and features tailored for local consumers.

The Elexio is based on the E-GMP platform, Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated EV architecture that also underpins models from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. This platform supports both single and dual-motor setups and is known for its flexibility in terms of performance, range, and layout.
Exterior Design

The Elexio debuts a completely new exterior design that stands apart from Hyundai’s existing electric lineup. The front end features slim horizontal LED headlamps and a full-width LED light bar placed underneath. The grille-less front follows modern EV styling cues and includes sharp bumper air intakes.

Along the sides, the SUV showcases sculpted wheel arches, flush-fitting door handles, and a sloping roofline that merges into a darkened D-pillar. The rear design carries full-width slim LED taillights, bold Elexio badging, and a prominent rear bumper. While exact dimensions have not been shared yet, the vehicle looks sizable and could fall into the mid-size SUV category.
Interior Tech and Features
Hyundai has not fully unveiled the interior yet, but teasers suggest a button-less layout with a focus on clean surfaces and generous storage. The Elexio will feature a new digital instrument cluster and a smart infotainment system, both powered by the Qualcomm SA8295 chip for faster processing and improved connectivity. Hyundai refers to the setup as an “intelligent interface.”
The Elexio is also expected to come equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, providing Level 2+ autonomous features, enhancing both safety and driving comfort.
Powertrain and Battery
While detailed powertrain specifications remain under wraps, Hyundai claims that the Elexio will deliver over 700 km of range on a single charge, based on the CTLC test cycle used in China. The electric SUV will also support fast charging, taking the battery from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes. The battery pack will be housed in a reinforced structure designed to meet crash safety standards.
Launch Timeline
Production of the Elexio will be handled by Beijing Hyundai, and the vehicle is expected to go on sale in the Chinese market in the coming months. At this point, Hyundai hasn’t confirmed whether the Elexio will be offered in other global markets, but it continues to explore international opportunities for its EV lineup produced in China.
