Hyundai Exter S Smart and SX Smart variants launched in India, starting at ₹7.68 lakh. New trims offer sunroof, AMT, CNG, and added features to enhance value.

Hyundai Motor India has expanded the Exter lineup with the introduction of two new variants — S Smart and SX Smart. These variants come with added features and are available in petrol and CNG options with both manual and AMT gearboxes. The S Smart variant is now the most affordable Exter to offer an electric sunroof and AMT transmission.
Pricing Details
The S Smart is priced from ₹7.68 lakh, while the SX Smart is available from ₹8.16 lakh (ex-showroom). Both trims come in multiple configurations, including petrol MT/AMT and CNG MT options. Here’s a quick look at their prices:
Hyundai Exter S Smart Prices (Ex-showroom):
- Petrol MT: ₹7.68 lakh
- Petrol AMT: ₹8.39 lakh
- CNG MT: ₹8.62 lakh
Hyundai Exter SX Smart Prices (Ex-showroom):
- Petrol MT: ₹8.16 lakh
- Petrol AMT: ₹8.83 lakh
- CNG MT: ₹9.18 lakh
With these new additions, Hyundai aims to offer more value with features that were previously reserved for higher trims.
Feature Highlights

The S Smart variant is equipped with LED DRLs, rear AC vents, an electric sunroof, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This variant now becomes the most accessible Exter trim to feature a sunroof and brings the AMT gearbox option at a lower price point, with a ₹5,000 drop compared to the earlier availability.

The SX Smart trim adds projector headlamps, a shark fin antenna, and a smart key with push-button start/stop — features previously limited to higher variants like SX Tech. It also includes a single-pane sunroof, maintaining the Exter’s compact SUV appeal.

Hyundai has also made ISOFIX child seat mounts standard across the Exter range to enhance safety.
Powertrain Options
The Hyundai Exter continues with the 1.2-litre petrol engine, available with an optional CNG kit. Here are the key specifications:
- Petrol Engine: 1.2-litre, 83 PS, 114 Nm (5-speed MT/AMT)
- CNG Engine: 1.2-litre, 69 PS, 95.2 Nm (5-speed MT)
Both engines are designed for everyday efficiency and city performance, with the CNG option offering a cost-effective alternative.
Accessories and Infotainment
Customers can also opt for a larger 22.96 cm touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is offered as a genuine accessory, priced at ₹14,999, and comes with a 3-year warranty. A rear camera can also be bundled with this system.
Market Position and Rivals
With these additions, the Hyundai Exter now ranges from ₹6 lakh to ₹9.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes in the micro-SUV segment, taking on rivals such as the Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Hyundai aims to make premium features more accessible with this update while maintaining the Exter’s competitive edge in the segment.
