The design of the new Lexus ES adopts a refreshed take on the brand’s signature spindle design, now more integrated into the body for a sleeker appearance. The face of the sedan is defined by sharply styled L-shaped LED daytime running lights and horizontally positioned projector headlamps housed within contrasting black sections. A slim upper grille and wider lower intake enhance the vehicle’s bold stance, while the sculpted hood adds a layered, dynamic effect to the overall look.

At the rear, the ES continues its modern aesthetic with a redesigned light signature. New L-shaped tail lamps are connected by a full-width LED light bar that seamlessly integrates with the illuminated Lexus logo at the center. The sloping roofline flows smoothly into a clean and sculpted tail section, giving the sedan a wider and more athletic presence on the road.

The new ES is larger than its predecessor, with a 165 mm increase in overall length and an 80 mm longer wheelbase. The increased dimensions provide more cabin space, especially in the rear, where the distance between the front and rear seats has been extended by 77 mm.

Interior and Comfort

Inside, the ES continues Lexus’ focus on luxury and comfort, offering a minimalist, clean layout with improved materials and technology. The cabin is designed to enhance the sense of space, with a wider dashboard and premium finishes. The new design includes unique elements like Bamboo Layering and Synthetic Leather Embossing, which combine light effects and texture for a contemporary feel.

Passenger comfort is a priority in the new ES. The rear seats can be fitted with reclining functions and an ottoman leg support for a more luxurious experience. The front passenger seat includes a forward-folding function to improve rear-seat legroom.

Powertrain Options

Lexus has introduced a multi-pathway powertrain strategy with the new ES, offering both hybrid and battery electric models to meet varying customer needs.

  • ES 300h: This self-charging hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-liter engine, delivering 201 horsepower. It is available with both front- and all-wheel drive options.
  • ES 350h: A more powerful hybrid version, using the same 2.5-liter engine but producing 247 horsepower, is offered in select markets.

For electric vehicle enthusiasts, the ES will be available in two battery-electric versions:

  • ES 350e: This front-wheel-drive electric model offers 224 horsepower.
  • ES 500e: The all-wheel-drive electric variant produces 343 horsepower and features the Lexus DIRECT4 system for intelligent torque distribution across all four wheels.

Driving Dynamics and Handling

Lexus has made significant improvements to the handling and ride quality of the new ES. The car’s structural rigidity has been enhanced, particularly in the front end, floor, and rear, reducing vibrations and improving steering responsiveness. The vehicle’s larger dimensions contribute to a more stable and comfortable driving experience, while the MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension help maintain smooth driving dynamics.

A new variable-gear rack steering system improves stability at high speeds and offers better maneuverability at low speeds. These upgrades combine to deliver a balanced, engaging driving experience, true to the Lexus Driving Signature.

Digital Cockpit and Multimedia

The new ES introduces an advanced digital cockpit, featuring a 12.3-inch digital combimeter and a 14-inch LexusConnect multimedia system, which integrates navigation, safety features, and multimedia controls. The system offers a seamless user experience, with real-time updates and the ability to find charging stations for the electric models.

LexusConnect also supports Over-The-Air software updates, ensuring the system remains up-to-date. The LexusLink+ app extends the connected experience, allowing users to customize their digital interface and subscribe to various services.

Safety Features

Lexus continues to prioritize safety in the new ES, with further advancements to the Lexus Safety System+. The system now includes more advanced features, such as:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Integrates map data to help optimize speed when approaching intersections or roundabouts.
  • Pre-Collision Safety (PCS): Expanded to detect and respond to a broader range of potential hazards, including electric scooters.
  • Driver Monitor System: Uses a camera to monitor the driver’s condition, alerting them if signs of fatigue or distraction are detected. The system can even bring the car to a stop if the driver does not respond.
  • Driver Emergency Response System: Can activate hazard lights and gradually bring the car to a stop if the system detects significant changes in the driver’s posture, signaling difficulty in controlling the vehicle.
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM): Now detects bicycles and motorcycles to enhance safety during lane changes.
  • Lane Departure Alert (LDA): Enhanced to recognize roadside structures, helping to prevent unintended lane departures.
  • High-definition Adaptive High-beam System: Provides more precise light control, adjusting both horizontally and vertically to improve visibility.

Lexus currently offers the ES sedan in India, with prices starting at Rs 64 lakh and going up to Rs 69.70 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian luxury sedan segment, it competes with models like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and BMW 5 Series. The updated version is anticipated to arrive in the country sometime in 2026.
