Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift spied testing ahead of launch. Expected to get feature upgrades from Thar Roxx including LED lights, 10.25-inch infotainment, ADAS and more. Launch likely by late 2025 or early 2026.

Mahindra’s popular off-roader, the Thar, is set to receive a mid-cycle update, and the first spy shots of the facelifted 3-door model have now surfaced. Spotted wearing partial camouflage, the upcoming version hints at both design and feature upgrades that could make it more appealing to a wider range of buyers.
The Thar name has played a crucial role in reviving the lifestyle SUV segment, and with this update, Mahindra appears to be building on that success. While the camouflaged test mule doesn’t reveal the front-end design, the rear section shows what appears to be a revised bumper and new LED tail-lamp signatures. The overall silhouette remains familiar, but some minor styling changes are expected.
At the front, the facelift is likely to feature circular LED headlights and a reworked grille, possibly inspired by the recently launched Thar Roxx. The front bumper design and LED fog lamps could also mirror that of the Roxx edition. Interestingly, the mismatched wheel arch design — circular at the rear and squarish at the front — which was fixed on the Thar Roxx, might still be seen on the facelift.
Inside, Mahindra is expected to enhance the feature list significantly. Based on the Roxx variant, the upcoming Thar 3-door facelift could get modern additions like a 10.25-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, push-button start, keyless entry, and a request sensor on the door handle. Other expected additions include wireless charging, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a sunroof, powered driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery, rear disc brakes, and a soft-touch dashboard.

Safety tech may also see an upgrade, with Level-2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control potentially being offered — a first for the 3-door model if it happens. These additions could push the Thar facelift slightly upmarket in terms of pricing.

Mechanically, the facelifted Thar is not expected to bring major changes. It should continue with the current powertrain options — a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel (117 bhp/300 Nm), a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (150 bhp/320 Nm), and a 2.2-litre diesel (130 bhp/300 Nm). All engines are offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, and both 2WD and 4WD versions are expected to remain.
Mahindra is expected to launch the updated 3-door Thar either by the end of 2025 or early 2026. It will likely be joined by the facelifted XUV700, which has also been spotted on test recently. Meanwhile, Mahindra is also preparing to roll out the next-gen Bolero Neo based on an all-new ladder frame, with its launch reportedly scheduled as early as August.
