Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that its first all-electric vehicle, the e Vitara, will be available for sale before the end of September 2025. The confirmation came from Chairman R.C. Bhargava during the company’s Q4 FY25 financial results briefing. The electric SUV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, signaling a major move by the brand into the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment.

The e Vitara will be built on Maruti Suzuki’s newly developed Heartect-e platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles, combining lightweight construction with the capability to support electric powertrains. The model, which had its first public showing at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, is poised to compete strongly in its segment with a claimed range exceeding 500 km on a full charge.

Maruti Suzuki plans to offer the e Vitara with two battery options: a 49 kWh pack and a 61 kWh pack. The SUV will also feature two motor setups: a standard-range variant with a 105.8 kW/192.5 Nm motor, and a long-range version equipped with a 128 kW/192.5 Nm motor. Both batteries will use LFP cells sourced from BYD.

The Maruti e Vitara will showcase LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it will offer a 10.1-inch integrated touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-way power-adjustable and ventilated driver’s seat, a fixed-glass sunroof, and a premium Harman audio system.

Connectivity will be a key highlight, with Suzuki Connect offering over 60 connected car features, including remote operations, live vehicle tracking, and diagnostics. On the safety front, the e Vitara will be equipped with seven airbags, an electronic parking brake, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), making it one of the safest Maruti Suzuki models yet.

While Indian customers are eager for the launch, domestic deliveries may initially be limited. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that production will start between May and June, with a majority of the first units designated for exports to more than 100 global markets, including Japan and several European countries.

During Maruti Suzuki’s Q4 FY2025 earnings conference call on Friday, Bhargava noted that around 70,000 units are targeted for production during FY26, with a significant focus on overseas shipments. He mentioned, “This year’s production will largely be exported,” hinting that customers in India might have to wait slightly longer to get their hands on the electric SUV.

The e Vitara was expected to launch earlier, with display units already arriving at dealerships. However, the company has now clarified that the official sales rollout will happen closer to September 2025. Whether the timeline shifted due to unforeseen challenges or was part of the original plan remains unclear.

Once launched, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will stand as a strong rival in the mid-size electric SUV segment, particularly against models like the Hyundai Creta EV.
