New Kia K4 Hatchback revealed at New York International Auto Show 2025

Kia just unveiled the 2026 K4 Hatchback at the New York International Auto Show, and it’s bringing fresh energy to a segment that’s slowly fading in the U.S. market. With U.S. sales set to begin later this year, the K4 Hatchback joins the lineup as a sportier, more flexible version of the K4 sedan that was introduced last year.

Design and Practicality

Kia K4 Hatchback is shorter than the sedan by about 25 cm (or roughly 11 inches), but somehow, it’s even more practical. Kia says it leads its class in rear legroom and adds a bit more headroom in the back, too—about an inch. Cargo space is impressive for a hatch: 629 litres behind the rear seats, and up to 1,679 litres with the seats folded down.

Design-wise, the K4 Hatch doesn’t hold back. It has a sleek floating roofline, hidden rear door handles built into the C-pillar, and a sharp rear end capped with vertical LED lights taken from Kia’s flagship EV9. You’ll also find gloss black trim, bold 18-inch wheels, and a new Sparkling Yellow paint option for some extra flair.

Powertrain Options

Under the hood, the hatch shares the same engine options as the sedan. There’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 147 horsepower paired with a CVT, or a more powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 190 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, matched to an eight-speed automatic. The GT-Line Turbo versions get a sportier suspension setup and upgraded brakes.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the layout is nearly identical to the sedan. A wide digital display—almost 30 inches across—dominates the dashboard, combining the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with ventilated seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, and Kia’s new Digital Key 2.0, which lets you unlock and start the car with your phone.

Advanced Safety Features

On the safety side, Kia isn’t holding back. The K4 Hatchback comes equipped with 16 standard safety features and offers a total of 29 advanced driver-assistance systems. These include blind-spot video monitoring, surround-view cameras, evasive steering assist, and semi-autonomous Highway Driving Assist. The vehicle also features Kia’s latest Forward Collision Avoidance systems, designed to detect and prevent potential collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
