Nissan India has clarified its future roadmap, reaffirming its commitment to the Indian market amid recent rumours of an exit. Speaking at the virtual launch event of the Magnite CNG, Nissan India’s Managing Director, Saurabh Vatsa, addressed these concerns and outlined upcoming product plans and investment strategies. His comments were shared in an interaction with Autocar India, where he confirmed that multiple new models are in the pipeline and pre-production for key vehicles has already begun.

According to Vatsa, Nissan is actively preparing for the introduction of two new models next year — a compact MPV based on the Renault Triber platform and a new SUV derived from the upcoming Renault Duster. Pre-production for both vehicles has already started at the Chennai manufacturing facility, operated by Renault. The MPV is scheduled to launch in early 2026, while the SUV will follow by mid-2026.

Looking further ahead, Nissan plans to bring a proper 7-seater SUV to the Indian market in 2027. This will be more than just a variant with extra seats; the new SUV is designed and engineered specifically to accommodate seven passengers comfortably, distinguishing it from typical “plus-two” configurations.

The company remains focused on strengthening its existing models as well, especially the Magnite compact SUV, which is currently exported to more than 65 countries worldwide. Both petrol engine options of the Magnite were upgraded to comply with E20 fuel standards earlier this year, and Nissan intends to continue developing this model to keep it competitive.

Despite challenges faced by some imported models like the X-Trail CBU, Nissan is still considering bringing in more CBU vehicles to diversify its lineup in India. However, the company confirmed that it does not plan to introduce diesel engines for its locally produced models anytime soon. Instead, Nissan is exploring other powertrain options including hybrids, electric vehicles, and CNG variants, with more concrete plans expected around 2027 when stricter emission norms come into force.

Nissan’s investment strategy in India remains robust, with the company currently utilising its committed €700 million funding for product development and local manufacturing. The target is to reach an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles to serve both domestic sales and exports.

Earlier this year, Nissan divested its stake in the Chennai plant, ending the manufacturing alliance with Renault. Vatsa explained this move was aimed at increasing operational agility and said the partnership with Renault continues smoothly, ensuring uninterrupted production and supply for both brands.
