Next-generation Mahindra Bolero has been spotted testing in India. Expected to be based on a new platform, the SUV will likely debut as a near-production concept on August 15 with updated design and features.
Mahindra has started testing what appears to be the new-generation Bolero on public roads in India. Spy shots of the heavily camouflaged SUV have surfaced online, pointing towards a complete redesign that blends the Bolero’s traditional boxy styling with more contemporary design elements. This marks one of the most significant updates to the Bolero in years.
The new Bolero is expected to be underpinned by an all-new modular platform, details of which are likely to be revealed on August 15. Mahindra has already confirmed that a new platform will make its debut on that date, and the updated Bolero could be among the first models based on this architecture.
Despite the heavy camouflage, several design features are visible. At the front, the SUV sports Mahindra’s latest grille with vertical slats, flanked by headlamp housings that currently feature circular cutouts. However, the production model is expected to retain rectangular headlamp units. The bonnet remains flat, while the front bumper appears more squared-off and upright, reinforcing the SUV’s rugged character.
The side profile reveals a cleaner design compared to the current Bolero and Bolero Neo. Key highlights include squared wheel arches, flush-fitted door handles, and a strong shoulder line. The rear section continues to feature a side-opening tailgate with provisions for a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, although the test mule appears to have a sensor module mounted in its place.

Mahindra is expected to use a new monocoque platform for the upcoming Bolero. This flexible architecture is reportedly designed to support a range of powertrain options, including internal combustion engines and hybrid technology. While official specifications are yet to be announced, this new platform is likely to form the basis for several future Mahindra models.
In terms of positioning, Mahindra could adopt a two-pronged approach, similar to what it has done with the Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic. The current Bolero may continue to be offered in rural and semi-urban markets as a cost-effective option, while the new-generation model could replace the Bolero Neo as a more premium SUV targeted at urban buyers.

The updated Bolero is expected to feature significant improvements in equipment and safety. Features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, improved cabin materials, LED lighting elements, and safety technologies like ABS and airbags are likely to be offered. Higher variants could also include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, and connected car features.
A near-production concept version of the SUV is expected to be showcased on August 15, followed by a full market launch sometime in 2026. Once launched, the SUV is expected to be manufactured at Mahindra’s new Chakan facility.
The next-gen Bolero is expected to compete with upcoming rugged lifestyle SUVs such as the Tata Sierra, and possibly others in the segment that combine heritage styling with modern features.
