Renault has taken the wraps off its all-new global C-segment SUV, the Boreal, marking its entry into the brand’s next phase of international expansion. Developed outside of Europe as part of Renault’s €3 billion international strategy, the Boreal is positioned for markets like Latin America, Turkey, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean Basin. While not officially confirmed, Renault is expected to bring the Boreal to India in 2027, likely as the three-row version of the upcoming Duster.

Measuring 4.56 metres in length with a 2.70 metre wheelbase, the Renault Boreal sits above the Duster in the brand’s global lineup. The SUV showcases a new design language influenced by the Niagara concept, with styling elements like a full-width front grille, sleek LED headlamps that merge into the wings, muscular surfaces, and a strong SUV stance reinforced by 19-inch alloy wheels, a contrasting black roof, roof rails, and aluminium skid plates. A panoramic sunroof further enhances the premium look.

Inside, the cabin is designed for tech-savvy families. The dashboard is dominated by Renault’s OpenR twin-screen layout, featuring a 10-inch digital driver display and a 10-inch central infotainment screen. Powered by Google’s native operating system, it brings seamless access to Google Maps, Assistant, and over 100 apps including Prime Video and Amazon Music. Inspired by interiors from Renault’s EVs like the 5 E-Tech and 4 E-Tech, the cabin uses soft-touch materials, ambient lighting with 48 selectable shades, and laser-engraved details. The upholstery differs by region — blue for Latin America and cool grey for Turkey.

Comfort and practicality are clearly in focus. The front seats offer power adjustability, memory function, massage settings, and dual-zone climate control. Rear occupants benefit from generous legroom, USB-C ports, dedicated AC vents, and a versatile boot area that offers 586 litres of space, expandable to 1,770 litres with the 40:60 split rear seat folded flat using the Easy Break function.

Connectivity and convenience extend beyond the cabin through the My Renault app, offering remote access features like vehicle locator, cabin preconditioning, security alerts, and more. The Boreal also includes smart maintenance alerts, remote diagnostics, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Under the hood, the Boreal is powered by a new-generation 1.3-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine. Depending on the region, this unit is available in standard petrol and Flex Fuel variants. In Latin America, the engine makes 156 hp in petrol guise and up to 163 hp in Flex Fuel spec, with torque going up to 270 Nm. For the Turkish market, the same engine is detuned to 138 hp and 240 Nm. Power is sent through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, also seen in the Renault Kardian.

To complement the powertrain, Renault offers its Multi-Sense drive system, allowing users to choose between Eco, Comfort, Sport, MySense, and a new Smart mode that automatically adjusts throttle response, steering weight, ambient lighting, and sound profiles in real-time.

The Boreal stands as a well-rounded, tech-loaded and family-focused SUV that’s tailored for global markets outside Europe. While the India launch is still some time away, its expected arrival as the three-row version of the new Duster adds another strong contender to the competitive C-SUV segment.
