Renault’s new 7-seater SUV, the Boreal, will debut globally on July 10. Based on the Dacia Bigster, the Boreal offers 6- and 7-seat layouts and could launch in India alongside the new Duster in 2026.

Renault is all set to unveil its all-new three-row SUV, the Boreal, on July 10, 2025. The upcoming model is essentially a rebranded version of the Dacia Bigster, but unlike the five-seater Bigster, the Boreal will offer six- and seven-seat configurations, catering to larger families and those seeking a more spacious SUV. While the global debut will take place in South America, there’s increasing speculation that the Boreal could eventually make its way to the Indian market.
The Boreal is underpinned by the CMF-B modular platform from the Renault-Nissan Alliance—the same platform that will also power the next-generation Duster, which is confirmed to launch in India in the first half of 2026. Positioned above the Duster, the Boreal will serve as a more premium offering from Renault. In international markets, it is expected to compete with SUVs like the Jeep Compass and Skoda Kodiaq, while in India, it could take on rivals such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and Kia Carens.

Although inspired heavily by the Dacia Bigster, the Renault Boreal will feature distinct styling to reflect the brand’s identity. It is expected to get a bold front grille with chrome inserts, sleeker headlamps with Y-shaped LED DRLs, and a muscular bumper with large air intakes. The rear will carry V-shaped LED tail-lights with Y-shaped signatures, along with a roof-mounted spoiler. The overall design is rugged, featuring squared-off wheel arches, roof rails, and chunky body cladding. Alloy wheels in 18- or 19-inch sizes will further enhance its road presence. Based on the dimensions of the Bigster, the Boreal is likely to measure around 4570mm in length, 1810mm in width, 1710mm in height, and offer a 2700mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is expected to be 220mm.

Inside, the Boreal is expected to share its cabin layout with the new-generation Duster but with additional premium features. Likely inclusions are a 10.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, and ambient lighting. The six-seater variant may come with captain seats in the second row, while the seven-seater will have a bench layout. The feature list could also include a Harman audio system, electronic parking brake, wireless charging, and safety features such as ADAS, multiple airbags, 360-degree camera, and ESC.

Globally, the Boreal is expected to share powertrains with the new Duster. Options may include a 1.2L turbo petrol with mild-hybrid tech, a 1.3L turbo petrol, a 1.6L strong hybrid, and even LPG variants in select markets. For India, Renault is likely to offer the 1.3L turbo petrol engine that makes 151 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. A strong hybrid powertrain is also expected, which may pair a 94 bhp 1.6L naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 49 bhp electric motor, a high-voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery pack. The combined output would be around 140 bhp.
Although Renault India hasn’t officially confirmed the Boreal’s launch for the local market, its shared platform with the upcoming new-gen Duster and the growing demand for three-row SUVs make a strong case for its eventual entry into India.
