Tata Harrier EV has secured a full 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests for both adult and child occupant safety. Tested on Empowered 75 variants, the electric SUV sets a new benchmark for EV safety in India.

Tata Motors continues to reinforce its reputation for safety, with the all-electric Tata Harrier EV earning a full 5-star safety rating in the latest crash tests conducted by the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). The SUV performed exceptionally well in both adult and child occupant protection categories, solidifying its position as one of the safest electric vehicles currently available in the Indian market.

According to Bharat NCAP, the crash tests were conducted on the Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 AWD (also referred to as QWD) variants. However, the 5-star rating applies to all variants of the Harrier EV. Built on Tata’s dedicated acti.ev platform, the Harrier EV is designed as an electric vehicle from the ground up, though it shares its body shell with the ICE-powered Harrier.

The Harrier EV scored a perfect 32 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection, delivering ‘Good’ protection ratings across all key body areas during both the frontal offset deformable barrier and side movable deformable barrier tests. In the frontal impact, it secured 16/16 points with noted safety for the driver’s chest and lower limbs. In the side impact, it again achieved 16/16, with high marks for the head, abdomen, pelvis, and chest areas. The side pole test, which simulates more extreme side impacts, earned the SUV an ‘OK’ rating, indicating a satisfactory level of safety.

For child occupant protection, the Harrier EV scored an impressive 45 out of 49 points. This included full marks in both the dynamic crash performance (24/24) and child seat installation compatibility (12/12). It also scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment parameters. These tests used dummies representing 18-month-old and 3-year-old children secured in child restraint systems, showing strong levels of protection.

The Harrier EV’s standard safety package helped it excel in these evaluations. Features include seven airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, roll-over mitigation, hill-hold control, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats, and ISOFIX anchor points for child seats. Front seats also benefit from belt pretensioners and load limiters, further enhancing crash safety.

With a tested curb weight of 2,574 kg, the Harrier EV stands as a robust two-row, five-seater electric SUV. The results of the crash tests come just a day after Tata Motors announced pricing for the RWD variants of the model, further boosting consumer confidence in the vehicle’s credentials.
