Tata Sierra and Sierra EV Confirmed for Launch: All You Need to Know

Tata Motors is set to bring back the iconic Sierra nameplate with both internal combustion and electric powertrains, aiming for a launch within the current fiscal year, by March 2026. This follows a series of successful new models from the company in both ICE and EV segments.

Return of a Legend

First introduced in 1993, the original Tata Sierra made headlines as the brand’s first passenger vehicle to feature a 4×4 system. Now, Tata is preparing to reintroduce the Sierra in a modern avatar, while also launching an all-electric version – the Sierra EV. After initial glimpses at the Auto Expo 2020 and a closer-to-production model displayed at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, anticipation has only grown.

Design and Styling

Tata has managed to give the Sierra a modern look while retaining elements of the original’s charm. Gone is the iconic rear glass canopy, now replaced to meet modern safety standards. The updated front end gets a wide stance, sleek LED DRLs under the bonnet line, vertical LED headlamps, a glossy black grille, and a robust metal skid plate.

From the side, the Sierra keeps its boxy silhouette. A dual-tone floating roof and new alloy wheel designs add to its visual appeal. At the rear, a connected LED tail lamp setup and prominent ‘Sierra’ branding below the Tata badge provide a clean and bold finish.

Cabin and Features

Inside, the Sierra will follow Tata’s latest design language with a few unique touches. Patent images suggest a familiar layout featuring a central touchscreen infotainment unit, digital instrument cluster, horizontal air vents, and Tata’s new 4-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo.

The Sierra lineup is expected to include a panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, automatic climate control, and voice command features. Safety kit will include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS with lane assist, automatic braking, and more.

Engine and Powertrain Options

The ICE version of the Sierra will be available with a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 168 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. It will also get the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine from the Harrier and Safari, which puts out 168 bhp and 350 Nm. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be offered.

The Sierra EV, meanwhile, will be based on Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev platform. While full specs are yet to be confirmed, it is expected to pack a 60–75 kWh battery offering over 500 km of range. The EV is likely to feature a dual-motor AWD setup along with V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) and V2L (vehicle-to-load) capabilities.

Launch Timeline

The ICE version of the Sierra is expected to hit the market around November – December 2025, aligning with the festive season. It will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti’s upcoming mid-size SUV.
