Tata Sierra EV is expected to launch in late 2025, reviving the iconic SUV with an all-electric powertrain, refreshed design, and a focus on modern features and comfort.

Tata Motors is bringing back the iconic Sierra nameplate, this time as a fully electric SUV, expected to debut by the second half of 2025. The new Sierra EV aims to blend the legacy of the original 1991 off-road SUV with a fresh, contemporary design and the latest electric vehicle technology.
Revival of a Classic with an Electric Twist
The original Tata Sierra was one of the earliest off-road SUVs introduced in the country and holds a special place among enthusiasts. Now, Tata Motors plans to revive this beloved model with an all-electric powertrain alongside a combustion-engine variant, offering buyers both traditional and electrified options. Interestingly, reports suggest the electric version could launch before the petrol/diesel model, signaling Tata’s strong push towards electrification.
Design and Interior Features

The Sierra EV retains much of the rugged charm seen in concept versions showcased by Tata Motors. It is expected to feature a panoramic sunroof that enhances the sense of spaciousness, while the exterior design incorporates sharp lines and modern elements that pay tribute to the original SUV’s character. Inside, the Sierra EV is expected to come with a distinctive dashboard featuring a three-screen layout stretching across its width—marking a shift from Tata’s current interiors.
Comfort and technology will be key focuses, with ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and premium upholstery anticipated. For tech enthusiasts, the SUV is likely to offer a dual infotainment system, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) at Level 2 autonomy.
Powertrain and Performance
The Sierra EV is expected to be built on Tata’s dedicated Acti.EV platform, which allows for flexible drivetrain options, including both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. While specific battery details are yet to be officially announced, the SUV is expected to provide two battery pack options capable of delivering a range between 450 and 550 kilometers on a full charge. This makes it suitable for both city commuting and longer journeys.

The Sierra EV is also expected to come with single and dual-motor setups, catering to different performance and range preferences.

This includes multiple airbags, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, electric parking brake with auto-hold, and hill start assist. Additionally, the inclusion of a Level 2 ADAS package with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera will add to occupant safety and convenience.
