Tesla is finally entering the Indian market with its first showroom opening in Mumbai by mid-July, followed by one in Delhi. The Model Y will be the first electric SUV on offer, with prices expected around ₹48 – ₹50 lakh.

Tesla is finally making its official entry into the Indian market, with the company expected to open its first dealership in Mumbai by mid-July, followed shortly by another showroom in Delhi. This marks a major milestone for the Elon Musk-led electric carmaker, which has been in discussions about an India entry for several years.
According to sources familiar with the development, Tesla’s initial operations will begin in the coming 2–3 weeks, with both showrooms gearing up to retail the Model Y — the company’s best-selling electric SUV globally. The first batch of Model Y units has already arrived in India, shipped directly from Tesla’s Shanghai plant.

Alongside the vehicles, Tesla has also imported essential infrastructure components, including Supercharger parts sourced from the United States, China, and the Netherlands. The automaker has further brought in spare parts, accessories, and branded merchandise, indicating that full-scale sales and service operations are set to kick off shortly.

A report from Bloomberg revealed that five units of the Model Y have been imported to Mumbai with a declared value of approximately ₹27.7 lakh ($31,988) each. However, with import duties factored in, the overall cost of each vehicle rises by an additional ₹21 lakh. That puts the expected ex-showroom price of the Model Y in India at around ₹48 – ₹50 lakh, though Tesla is likely to confirm final pricing closer to the official launch.
