Toyota Innova Hycross has received a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP tests, with strong scores in both adult and child occupant protection. Tested on hybrid variants, the MPV offers robust safety features and a durable TNGA-C platform.

The Toyota Innova Hycross has officially secured a five-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), placing it among the highest-rated vehicles tested under the Indian crash safety protocol to date. The MPV performed strongly across both adult and child occupant protection categories, reflecting Toyota’s commitment to safety engineering.
In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) assessment, the Hycross scored 30.47 out of 32 points. During the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it achieved 14.47 out of 16, offering good protection to most critical body regions for both the driver and front passenger. Chest protection, however, was rated as adequate. The MPV performed flawlessly in the side movable deformable barrier test, securing a full 16 out of 16 points, and also received an ‘OK’ rating in the side pole impact evaluation.

Child safety performance was equally impressive. The Hycross earned 45 out of 49 points in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. This includes full scores in both the dynamic crash test (24/24) and CRS (Child Restraint System) installation test (12/12), and 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. The tests used rearward-facing child seats secured via ISOFIX and a support leg for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies.

Safety equipment across the Innova Hycross is generous. All variants come with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), 3-point seatbelts for all seats with reminders, ISOFIX anchorages on the outer rear seats, and a front passenger airbag deactivation switch. Curtain airbags extend protection across all three rows, while chest and pelvis airbags are provided only for front-seat occupants. While the model lacks knee airbags and rear seatbelt pre-tensioners, its overall safety architecture — based on Toyota’s TNGA-C modular platform — is clearly effective.

Bharat NCAP confirmed that the crash tests were conducted on the hybrid VX and ZX variants, though the five-star rating applies to both petrol and hybrid versions of the Innova Hycross. Toyota’s top-spec ZX (O) variant also features advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), further enhancing safety credentials.
