Volkswagen Golf GTI is set to launch in India on May 26, 2025. The first batch of 250 units is already sold out. Expected to be priced between Rs 55 – 60 lakh (ex-showroom), the performance hatchback features a 2.0L turbo petrol engine with 265 PS and advanced tech.

Volkswagen is all set to officially launch the much-anticipated Golf GTI in India on May 26, with the performance hatch arriving via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route. The initial allocation of 250 units, which went up for pre-booking on May 5 via Volkswagen’s official website, was snapped up almost immediately, reflecting the strong demand among enthusiasts. Deliveries for these units are expected to commence by June 2025.
Powertrain & Performance
The Golf GTI will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 265 PS and 370 Nm of peak torque. This motor is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG), sending power exclusively to the front wheels. Volkswagen claims a 0-100 kmph sprint time of just 5.9 seconds, with top speed electronically capped at 250 kmph. The hot hatch also features a front-axle electronic differential lock (XDS) and progressive steering for enhanced handling.
Design & Styling


On the exterior, the Golf GTI is distinguished by its sporty elements such as the illuminated Volkswagen badge, signature red GTI accents, and Matrix LED headlamps. The front bumper features a large honeycomb-patterned air dam and unique X-shaped fog lamps. Side profile highlights include 18-inch “Richmond” alloy wheels with a diamond-turned finish, red-painted brake callipers, and subtle GTI badging. At the rear, the GTI flaunts smoked LED tail-lights, a roof-mounted spoiler, and twin chrome exhaust tips, reinforcing its performance character.

Interior & Features
Inside, the cabin combines retro charm with modern tech. The GTI comes with Scalepaper Plaid seat upholstery accented in red, a nod to its heritage. A leather-wrapped sports steering wheel with GTI branding and paddle shifters completes the sporty look. The dashboard is dominated by a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver display, both customizable and responsive. Other key features include:

Once launched, the Golf GTI will directly rival the Mini Cooper S JCW in the Indian market. With this new performance hatch, Volkswagen aims to expand its premium lineup, which currently includes the Taigun, Virtus, and the recently introduced Tiguan R-Line.
