Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV is expected to launch in India by late 2025. Positioned above the Tiguan, the Tayron is expected to offer more space, a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine, premium features, and advanced safety tech for family buyers.

After the recent spotlight on the Golf GTI, Volkswagen is now preparing to introduce a more family-oriented offering — the Tayron 7-seater SUV — in India. The launch is scheduled around the festive season in late 2025, and it will become Volkswagen’s flagship SUV in the Indian market, positioned above the Tiguan R-Line.
Larger and More Spacious Than the Tiguan
The upcoming Tayron is expected to cater to the growing demand for larger, feature-packed family SUVs. Unlike the Tiguan, which is a 5-seater, the Tayron will be a proper 7-seater based on the MQB Evo platform. This platform allows for better space management, flexibility, and driving dynamics.
The Tayron measures 4,792 mm in length with a 2,789 mm wheelbase, making it longer and roomier than the Tiguan. This will translate into a more usable third row and improved boot space, ideal for larger families and long-distance travellers.

On the outside, the SUV will carry a bold road presence with LED matrix headlights, connected LED tail lamps, sporty alloy wheels, and a sculpted design that reflects Volkswagen’s modern styling.
Turbo-Petrol Powertrain Expected
For India, Volkswagen is expected to offer the 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine with the Tayron. The same unit powers the Tiguan R-Line, producing 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
While global versions of the Tayron get diesel and plug-in hybrid options, India is likely to stick with the petrol variant, in line with Volkswagen’s current strategy.

Cabin with High-End Features
The cabin of the Tayron will follow Volkswagen’s premium design language, offering a tech-rich and comfortable experience. Based on the international model, key features expected include:

- 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- Touch controls for climate settings
- Ambient lighting and premium interior materials
- Ventilated and massaging front seats
- Three-zone automatic climate control
- Panoramic sunroof
- Wireless phone charging
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The Tayron will also focus on safety, likely offering nine airbags, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and automatic emergency braking.
These features should give the Tayron a strong position among its rivals when it comes to occupant protection and driving assistance.
Expected Price and Rivals
Volkswagen is expected to bring the Tayron to India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit, which will help maintain quality while managing pricing. The SUV is likely to be priced around Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom).
Key rivals to the upcoming Volkswagen Tayron will include the Skoda Kodiaq, which shares its MQB Evo platform and several components. The Jeep Meridian will also be a strong competitor with its rugged appeal and off-road capability. Other potential rivals include the Toyota Fortuner, known for its reliability and strong resale value, and the MG Gloster, which offers a feature-packed experience at a competitive price point. Together, these models form a niche segment of premium 7-seater SUVs targeting buyers looking for space, comfort, and a premium driving experience.
