Tahira Kashyap Announces Breast Cancer Relapse on World Health Day: ‘Round 2 for Me’

On April 7, 2025, coinciding with World Health Day, filmmaker and writer Tahira Kashyap announced via Instagram that her breast cancer has recurred after seven years in remission. She was initially diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer, known as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), in 2018 and underwent a mastectomy.

In her recent Instagram post, Tahira emphasized the significance of regular health screenings, stating, “Seven-year itch or the power of regular screening—it’s a perspective, I had like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me…I still got this.”

She further added, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because for one it’s a better drink and two you know you will give it your best once again.”

Kashyap’s husband, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, expressed his support by commenting on her post, calling her “My warrior.”

The recurrence of breast cancer after a period of remission underscores the unpredictable nature of the disease. Health experts note that cancer cells can sometimes remain dormant and may reawaken years later.

Kashyap’s openness about her diagnosis serves as a reminder of the importance of regular health check-ups and early detection. Her resilience continues to inspire many as she faces this new challenge with optimism and strength.
