In a significant advancement towards digital convenience and privacy, the Indian government has introduced a new Aadhaar mobile application featuring Face ID authentication and QR code-based verification. This initiative aims to eliminate the need for physical Aadhaar cards and photocopies, streamlining identity verification processes nationwide.
Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, officially launched the app, emphasizing its role in enhancing security and user control over personal information. He stated, “New Aadhaar App, Face ID authentication via mobile app. No physical card, no photocopies.”

The app allows users to digitally share only the necessary data through secure means, ensuring privacy and consent. Vaishnaw highlighted, “Now with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information.”
A standout feature of the app is its QR code-based instant verification. Users can authenticate their identity by simply scanning a QR code, making the process as straightforward as a UPI payment. This advancement is expected to simplify interactions at various verification points such as hotels, shops, and airports. “Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making UPI payment. Users can now digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details while ensuring their privacy,” Vaishnaw noted.
The integration of Face ID authentication further enhances security, allowing real-time facial recognition for seamless verification. This feature reduces the risk of identity fraud and ensures that users have complete control over their personal data. “No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shops or during travel,” Vaishnaw emphasized.
Currently in its beta testing phase, the app is being refined based on user feedback before a nationwide rollout. This strategic approach aims to ensure a robust and user-friendly experience upon full implementation.
This development aligns with India’s broader vision of leveraging artificial intelligence and digital public infrastructure to enhance citizen services. By integrating advanced technologies into the Aadhaar system, the government seeks to provide secure, efficient, and user-centric solutions for identity verification.
