Apple Releases iOS 18.5 Update: New Features, Security Fixes, and How to Download

Apple has begun rolling out the iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 updates for iPhone and iPad users. Marking the fifth update in the iOS 18 series, this release doesn’t bring major changes like previous versions but remains essential for performance improvements, security patches, and a few functional enhancements.

iOS 18.5: What’s New?

Although iOS 18.5 doesn’t introduce headline-grabbing features, it adds several useful tweaks aimed at refining user experience. Key additions include:

  • New Pride Harmony Wallpaper: Apple has introduced a fresh Pride-themed wallpaper to celebrate diversity and inclusion, complementing the newly released Pride Edition Watch Band.
  • Screen Time Alert for Parents: A new notification system alerts parents when a child’s device passcode for Screen Time is accessed, adding another layer of control.
  • Satellite Connectivity for iPhone 13: Previously limited to iPhone 14 and newer, carrier-based satellite support is now available for iPhone 13 users, enhancing connectivity in low-network areas.
  • Mail App Enhancements: Users can now access an “All Mail” inbox, making it easier to switch between individual folders and the complete inbox. A new three-dot menu also allows quick toggling of contact photos.
  • Apple TV App Purchase Support: iOS 18.5 adds the ability to authenticate purchases through the Apple TV app on third-party smart TVs and streaming platforms.
  • Fix for Apple Vision Pro App: A bug causing a black screen in the Apple Vision Pro app has been addressed.

Security Fixes and Stability Updates

In addition to these changes, Apple has focused heavily on security with iOS 18.5. The update includes over 30 security patches affecting first-party apps, iCloud Document Sharing, Bluetooth, and more. Users are strongly advised to update their devices to ensure maximum protection.

How to Download iOS 18.5

Updating to iOS 18.5 is simple:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to General > Software Update.
  3. Tap on Download and Install.
  4. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery charge.

If the update isn’t available immediately, it may take a few hours to roll out fully, so check back periodically.

What’s Next?

With iOS 18.5 now out, Apple’s development focus is shifting toward iOS 19. The next-generation operating system is expected to be unveiled at the WWDC 2025 event in June, with a public release likely in the fall alongside the iPhone 17 lineup. Meanwhile, reports suggest that an iOS 18.6 update may also arrive before that, possibly introducing Apple Intelligence features in more markets, including China.
