MediaTek has unveiled its latest high-performance 5G chipset — the Dimensity 8450 — at the India Dimensity Summit. The new processor brings significant upgrades in performance, AI processing, imaging, and gaming, aimed at powering the next generation of premium smartphones. The event also marked the one-year anniversary of MediaTek Connect, celebrated with a gaming tournament and a showcase of the company’s full 5G chipset portfolio, ranging from entry-level to flagship.

Major smartphone brands such as OPPO, vivo, motorola, Redmi, realme, Infinix, Samsung, and Lava were present at the event, signaling strong OEM support for MediaTek’s latest silicon.

Up to 30% Performance and Efficiency Gains

Built on a 4nm process, the Dimensity 8450 features an all-big-core CPU architecture with eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores and a Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, delivering up to 30% better performance and power efficiency compared to its predecessor.

For AI workloads, the chipset integrates the NPU 880 along with MediaTek’s Agentic AI Engine, offering support for large language models (LLMs) and generative AI applications, reflecting the growing focus on AI capabilities in modern smartphones.
