Nintendo Switch 2 launches with a 7.9-inch display, redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers, improved performance, and 4K TV support.

Nintendo has officially launched the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2, its first brand-new console in eight years. The successor to the original Switch brings a host of upgrades, including a bigger display, more powerful internals, redesigned Joy-Con controllers, improved graphics support, and several quality-of-life enhancements. While the Switch 2 is now available in select global markets, it is important to note that the console is not officially available in India, though it is expected to arrive via import channels at a premium.
Visually, the most noticeable upgrade is the larger 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen with a 1920×1080 resolution. The new panel supports HDR10 and features a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, delivering a smoother and more vibrant gaming experience. Inside, the Switch 2 is powered by a custom Nvidia processor, which handles both CPU and GPU duties. It supports Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling and ray tracing, enabling better performance and more realistic visuals, especially in supported titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction.
For those who prefer TV gaming, the console can output up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second when docked. It can also push up to 120 fps at lower resolutions such as 1080p or 1440p. This makes the Switch 2 significantly more capable than the previous generation in terms of graphical fidelity.

The Joy-Con controllers have also received a major refresh. Dubbed Joy-Con 2, the new units feature HD Rumble 2, mouse sensors, and support for in-game communication via the new GameChat feature. The right Joy-Con also supports NFC, allowing for interaction with amiibo and other accessories. Each controller packs a 500mAh battery, offering up to 20 hours of gameplay on a full charge and taking approximately 3.5 hours to recharge fully.
In terms of storage, the Switch 2 includes 256GB of internal UFS storage, with a portion reserved for the system. Users can expand this storage by up to 2TB using microSD Express cards. The console offers modern connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth and comes equipped with two USB Type-C ports, a game card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD Express card slot. The dock adds more functionality with USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, LAN support, and charging capability.
Battery life varies from 2 to 6.5 hours depending on the game being played. The console takes about three hours to charge fully in sleep mode. As for build, the Switch 2 with Joy-Cons attached weighs approximately 535.2 grams. The dock weighs 381 grams, while the Joy-Con controllers weigh around 65–68 grams each. The retail box also includes Joy-Con 2 straps and grip for added comfort during gameplay.
