Following the recent confirmation that the Nothing Phone (3) will debut on July 1 powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis has now offered deeper insight into why the company chose this particular chipset for its upcoming flagship. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Evangelidis described the phone as a “major step up” from its predecessor, calling it Nothing’s “first true flagship.”

Evangelidis highlighted that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 features an all–big core setup, which enhances both performance and power efficiency. According to him, when paired with the latest version of Nothing OS, the Phone (3) delivers a “super fast and smooooth” experience — one that reflects the company’s vision for a high-performance Android device.

To support these claims, Evangelidis shared internal performance gains when compared to Phone (2). GPU performance is reportedly up by 88%, CPU by 33%, and NPU performance has increased by 125%. These figures indicate a significant generational leap, especially in AI-related tasks, which are now a key part of modern smartphone experiences.

When asked why the company didn’t go with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Evangelidis explained:
“8 Gen 3 has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP — and default software support is 4 & 4. Phone (3) will have 5 & 7.”

This suggests Nothing is aiming for a longer software lifespan and better real-world performance, rather than just focusing on theoretical benchmarking strength.

While the final results on battery optimisation are still being tested, Evangelidis noted that the chip’s efficient architecture is already showing promising results. This could translate into better power management and longer battery life in real-world usage — something critical for flagship users.

Camera performance is also a major focus on the Phone (3). Evangelidis revealed that the device will benefit from Qualcomm’s new Spectra 18-bit Triple ISP, which brings real-time segmentation of up to 12 layers in a single photo. This allows the camera to separate and enhance individual elements like the subject, background, and lighting, resulting in better detail, colour accuracy, and overall image quality.

The Nothing Phone (3) is scheduled to launch on July 1. With expectations already high, the company appears confident that its combination of top-tier silicon, AI-powered imaging, and refined user experience will offer a compelling alternative to mainstream flagships.
