Pixel 10 Pro Fold May Feature IP68 Rating and Slimmer Hinge

The upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold may be the Google’s first foldable phone with full IP68 water and dust resistance. It’s also expected to feature a slimmer hinge, larger outer screen, and upgraded 50MP camera.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold May Feature IP68 Rating and Slimmer Hinge

Google is preparing to unveil its next-gen Pixel lineup, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is already shaping up to be one of its most interesting offerings. While foldables have steadily improved over the years, durability has remained a concern. But that could be about to change. According to new reports, Google’s upcoming foldable might be the first in its category to feature a full IP68 rating, offering both water and dust resistance — something rarely seen in foldable devices.

The IP68 rating would mark a major leap from last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which offered IPX8 water resistance but no dust protection. If true, this would make the Pixel 10 Pro Fold not just splash-proof but far more rugged in daily use. That said, Google may face competition in claiming the “first” title, as Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold7 on July 9, which could also feature the same rating. Meanwhile, Vivo’s upcoming X Fold5 is set to debut with a range of certifications like IPX8, IPX9, and even underwater folding protection — but only IP5X dust resistance.

Another area where Google appears to be refining the Pixel Fold experience is in its design. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is tipped to come with a slimmer hinge, making the device more comfortable to hold and improving the folded thickness compared to the previous generation. The cover screen is also expected to grow slightly, now measuring around 6.4 inches, offering more usable screen real estate on the outside.

Camera hardware is getting a bump too. The new foldable is said to use the 50MP Samsung GN8 sensor with a 1/1.95″ sensor size — the same sensor reportedly used in the upcoming Pixel 10. This would be a noticeable upgrade from the 48MP Sony IMX787 sensor used in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, the 12MP ultra-wide camera and the 11MP front-facing shooter are likely to remain unchanged, continuing Google’s trend of incremental imaging upgrades.
